I am sad to report that Frank J. Freda will no longer be involved in Brand New Idol. Follow the link below for the official band statement at Brand New Idol dot com. Frank will be replaced by Timothy Heireth as lead vocalist. The band will be looking for a back-up singer/keyboard player as a replacement. This is not the end of BNI but a brand new beginning!!!

I have to admit, I always thought that the vocals were the weakest part of BNI. I always enjoyed the music, but couldn't get past the vocals. So in my opinion this isn't all that bad. I wish Kris and Tim all the best!

It seems that hard luck follows BNI/JM/HUD wherever they go.. yeesh...

Sad news indeed, but glad to hear it was amicable. Best of luck to both Frank and BNI! :)

Wow! I am actually a big fan of Frank's vocals. I thought his vocals were excellent both with BNI and his collaboration with Simulator. I look forward to future Frank Freda projects. Please keep us posted here at Electrogarden.

I still got plenty of love for Frank, and man I know you check in every now and then, so when you read this, know that you have my support as a fan of your voice and talents no matter where you decide to take them :)

On that same token, I also have been an avid fan of Tim and Kris since their early Joy Machine days on mp3.com, and I know they'll pull through and put out great songs as well...Tim you got a fantastic voice as well, so I know I won't be let down at all :)

Best of luck and support to both parties!!!

I wonder if Frank will end up doing more work with Simulator? It is good to know that the split was amicable. It's always sad when bands have members leave under bad conditions..

I love Frank's voice actually, so warm and powerful, with excellent projection. Very unique as well, which is a very important feature. I mean, it's so distinct, you know you're listening to BNI when you hear it, a very powerful branding tool for any band.

I just calculated how many nickels they would gain if mr. Freda had joined Ross Beall's project to perform lead vocals as a permanent vocalist. I guess it would be a great duo if only Ross could change his point on modern synthpop and then he would enter another unknown on his own. That's my take.

Bands are a spiritual relationship, a love relationship - with each other and with music. Passion often leads to different roads, however... I wish Tim, Frank, and Kris the best of luck. Now is not a time for fans of any select member to point out personal views against any element that was BNI then, But a time to encourage BNI and Frank...wishing them success.

I personally look forward to playing with BNI again and/or Frank should the event arise.

Best regards.

Very well said, Nigel!

In events like this, encouragement for all involved should be the focus, not a comparison or critique--

Knowing all the members like i do, i can only wish everyone the best and trust that the respective paths each are now taking will lead them to where they want to be...

Much luck and love,

Amy

The unfortunate thing is that when there is a split no matter how amicable people are going to take sides. I have corresponded a number of times with Frank and really grew to like him as a person as well as his music. Both parties here have an enormous amount of talent. If we end up getting two great bands rather than one, well I guess something positive can come from the estrangement.

Who knows maybe in 10 years they will have a reunion tour just like Kiss and Duran Duran... :)

I didn't say I don't like him, I don't even know him. ;) I only said that his vocals weren't my type of vocals. He might be very talented, just not my cup of tea. However, I really like BNI's music. I didn't mean to say anything negative, just tried to voice my own opinion about the breakup. :)

Hiya,

Not sure what you mean when you say, "If only Ross could change his point on modern synthpop". Would you be so kind as to elaborate?

Thanks! :)

I think he means that Ross used to be pretty anti-vocalist ... and that you don't need a vocalist to make your music known. At least I have had this discussion with Ross myself.

Well, Ross proved his point didn't he? He beacme known throughout the synthpop scene for his intrumental tracks, not his collaborative vocal tracks, right?

Well said, Jason, well said. :) Ross is THE synthpop instrumentalist! :) Thanks for clarifying that as well, Craig, makes perfect sense. :)

Hey Jeff and all!
CLD just gave ya the most correct explanation of my wordz. Russ had told me once that he prefers to avoid any kind of sirens with the mics so til then he fights voicelessly all alone this syn!

CElectric is me, im a double agent :)

I think that is the beauty of Simulator's music, it has the ability to stand on its own as an instrumental or lend itself quite nicely to a vocal treatment.

I agree, his instrumentals always keep the listener captivated. :)
