Last night, I had the great pleasure of seeing a live tribute to Oingo Boingo by a band called "Dead Man's Party" (www.dmplive.com). Having never seen a tribute band before, I had no idea what to expect. These guys absolutely blew me away, playing an almost 3 hour set, covering every classic Boingo song (my voice is raw this morning) and for a surprise ending -- Johnny Vatos, Boingo's mohawked drummer, came out to play for "Goodbye Goodbye." It was a unbelievable party.
Anyway, the question is, have any of you seen a tribute band? If so, what did you think of them? I know of a few out there, mainly one for The Doors (Wild Child), a couple of Beatles bands and I believe there's a DM tribute act called "101".

Ya know I love a good cover band...Theres a band called The Sweet and Tender Hooligans out here in L.A. that do the Morrissey and Smith conventions every year at the Palace, and they are absolutely amazing to see...The look, the sound, the songs, everything matches to a "T"...
The only other tribute band I've seen is the one you mentioned Wild Child...They were really good as well :)
I'd like to see a good DM tribute band though, a couple of friends of mine play locally for parties and small open mic venues as a DM-esque band and even though they are all good musicians, they're nothing to really shout about...When I think of a really good tribute band, they have to have the look, the attitude, and the sound of the people their emulating :)

I've always wanted to start an Electronic tribute band, but I doubt anyone would go to the shows. Maybe I should make it a New Order and side projects tribute band. Who knows. I should probably just do my own ¤¤¤¤ and ignore it.
But I saw the Kraftwerk tribute band Die Roboter in Toronto this summer. I've never seen Kraftwerk live, but this band were excellent. I loved them. They put on such a great show. I feel like I've seen Kraftwerk after having seen them.
