Now we know why the Brothers Flag have been so quiet lately. Looks like they have been working on a new abum that will be released in November. According to their website, its all at 133BPM. I'm ready to dance!!! I can't wait to hear it!!! Gotta start saving my pennies now to be able to afford all their new releases.

Oh this is some great news!!! I'm off to check it out...A return to some dance tracks, woo hoo!!! :woohoo:

I'm excited about the new album. For me it's not about dancing, the faster the song, the faster I run. A whole album of fast tracks sounds like a great change of pace.

Hey I agree, running, dancing, it doesn't matter as long as it gets you moving!!! :)

I wonder...
Does this mean the album/song will average out as a whole to 133BPM, or that each song will be exactly 133BPM. Personally, I think it'd be cooler to have each song average out to 133bpm, but in a different variation for each song.

Thatīs cool.
As long as the album will sound like their previous ones, then I will be satisfied. Love their style, really!!!
One of my lifeīs finds!!

I think the new album will be a sort of throwback to a more dance floor friendly sound...Heres how I came to this conclusion...
On their site, it says that their hibernation is complete, get ready to move!...Thae way I see it, we should all get ready to dance, cause songs at 133 bpm sound upbeat enough to me...
As far as the sound changing, I'm not sure it will change much...I mean, Remnants will give us old school die-hards the album we're missing in our collections, while this new album will more than likely continue on the same path they were already heading in...Maybe more songs in the key of "Cause And Consequence" etc...A little synth mixed in with some ebm???
Or maybe they'll give us something new and completely change their sound again :)

Back to a more dancey-oriented Red Flag should be fun !!!
We've had enough 'dark depressing' sounds from them. Time to cheer up & get that groove thing back again.
~NightHalo
August 29th, 2002, 02:16 AM
I prefer the darker songs. Typically dancey stuff gives me a headache, but that's just me. I think though, if one band could pull off dance music without giving me a headache , it would be Red Flag.

I look forward to it. I have not been disappointed by anything that they have yet released. Maybe some of them took a few more times listening to than others...
More music please.

I liked that style the best, the dark sound!!
That sound made me fall in love with this band, so it means a lot to me, and I hope they will keep that sound...

Well I think they'll retain some darkness to the music, but it will be a lot faster this time around...Man, two dance albums in a year's time...First this one and Remnants to follow :)

I was luckly enough to have a few bits and pieces of the new album shared with me yesterday and it sounds incredible. It is a fusion of their early upbeat, uptempo Niave Art work and their more recent darker music at 133 bpm. I can't wait for the release.

I may be confused here, but just exactly how fast is 133 bpm?
Give me some examples of other songs that are this fast. Sorry I'm no expert on this. But how fast was the original Nevermind Http?
7red7
August 31st, 2002, 04:10 PM
I think Nevermind Http is set at about 125 BPM give or take a few...
As far as how fast 133 BPM is...Well Provision's My Only Question is set at 134 BPM...A lot of bands in the EBM realm use fast paced beats above the 130 BPM mark as well...Funkervogt, Nitzer Ebb, Assemblage 23 etc...Let's just say it's gonna be a really fast paced, energetic album you can dance to...
Hope this helps :)
~MGun
August 31st, 2002, 04:36 PM
I don't mean to stray off the subject of the new album, but could you give some speed readings to some Echo Image tracks?
Let's say perhaps Skulk, Good Intentions, Messing With Love, etc.
I'm not familiar with a lot of the EBM bands.

I'd say that a few of the songs you mentioned are above the 125-130 marks...:)

Okay not to spoil the fun we're all having listening to the new tracks, but I just got done playing the newest offering from Codebreaker, Reign...
Is it just me, and it might be, but I see them heading into a trend here on this album...Reign Down On Me sounds a lot like Talk About The Future, and even has the distorted vocal effect in there...I really liked the first two tracks so far and I'll wait until next week before passing any kind of presumptuous judgement, but if next week's track sounds exactly like this one I might begin to lose faith in this new album...Sorry everyone JMO:)
I hope they prove me wrong though I really do, I want so much to like this album...The last time I got overly excited like this about a new RF release was for The Eagle And The Child...To me that was the quintessential album of 2000, and the best comeback into the limelight they could have given us...I just thought at 133 BPM on each song, this record would blow me away completely...

Well I gotta say this, Never Leave has restored my faith in the new album...I need some more tunes like this one...Perfect for the dancefloors, and oh so kicka** to drive to...This song is what it's all about for the new RF material :D

October 14th, 2002, 03:47 PM
I was also a bit concerned after hearing the third track, and likewise very encouraged by "Never Leave" . This is the best of the four so far, so let's hope things keep going this direction.

Okay, maybe I'm crazy, but IMHO, this is the second coming of Red Flag.
I've listened to the 5 samples on mp3.com, and I for one am FLOORED.
I'm not knocking their previous work, but, this is the best programming I've ever heard them do - bar none. It's still Red Flag, but it's RF on Futurepop acid. These are club stompers with melodies. YES! MELODIES! Granted, you kinda have to be in the mood for dark 'n' dancy, but DAMN do they deliver.
I didn't see this sonic U-turn coming for them... but whoa yeah, I like it.

I have yet to have a release from Red Flag fall on my ears in an unpleasing way. This release may be the first. I am not a big EBM fan and from the samples this is decidedly closer to oldschool EBM than would normally fit my tastes. I will probably end up liking it though and then go completely into EBM instead of synthpop...
Oh well
Here's to future days

Waooo! This new stuff sounds very interesting,

This coud be their best work since " The Crypt " my very favorite..

I agree with you MaxMode!!
I just heard the latest teaser sample of Shadow Warrior and I must say, Just when you think they can't get any better...THEY DO!!! This has to be my favorite one yet. I love how it starts off with the scary vocals, then changes to the melodic vocals. Perfection!!!!

November 3rd, 2002, 12:56 PM
Definitely! my dear
yeah great stuff,
by the way i love the vocals on " Never Leave " So Cool man!!
I have always said that RED FLAG is one of the Coolest Electro bands around, they always go for these perfect melodies.
and yeah, i also find some Nitzer Ebbish influence on CodebreakerT133, Great sound choice.
hummm! this even might become their best abum yet, let's see..
Long live Red Flag....

OKIES. I got Codebreaker T133 today. I like it. Sounds pretty nice. It wasn't as dancy as I feared. It still has the dark feeling I love. I'll let everyone know what my favorite track is when I am done listening to it.
BTW.. this album is called Codebreaker. Hence.. there is a code to break.. I won't say more. But try to find the secrets hehehe. Be very perceptive when you get this album and you may just break the code. :)
~sassygrl21
November 18th, 2002, 12:32 AM
I received Codebreaker T133 and have not stopped listening to it!! So far my favorites are, Shadow Warrior, Never Leave and Unbreakable. Unbreakable is slower and very dark. Reminds me of the Crypt .
Also...I looked very carefully and broke the code!!! A nice little treat!! That's all I'm sayin' ;)
Bravo Red Flag!! Another awesome album

So far, I really like about 4 of the songs. Oddly enough, they are the 4 tracks that sound the least like the rest of the album. At this point, much of the album runs together for me and some songs are indistinguishable from each other. I guess that's what happens when you try to make everything 133 bpm. It's not a bad album at all...jus a bit redundant.

Not you again. You only seem to post when you have something bad to say. Is it any wonder why this scene can never grow. why can't pepople embrace other peoples creativity and guts to put out something they believe in. It is sooo easy to be negative and put down other peoples efforts. "opinoins and a**holes" everyone has one. Too bad only the latter seems to take the time to post.

Actually Sassy, I think your being a bit too harsh on Steve...It's just an opinion my dear...And granted I'm not around or have read enough of Steve's posts to adequately say he posts negatively all the time, but what I read above here from him is nothing more than his honest opinion about the album...
I mean, when I get the album and listen to it, what if I only really like two tracks from it...Not like thats even a possibility, but what I'm getting at is that I'd hope you wouldn't think of me as just being negative about it, it's just all an opinion :)

November 20th, 2002, 08:58 AM
One question I have after my first listen-through of the album - how is Unbreakable a 133BPM song? Or was the 133 bpm thing merely meaning the album as a whole would average to 133 beats per minute?
~Kirlian Blue
November 20th, 2002, 11:06 AM
Ive heard three tracks of this album and im sure in Europe very soon Red Flag will get there credit they deserve........Plus I love this group ............Russian Radio has actually made into the UK Scene and loads more of there tracks are popping up at Electricdreamsclub are one and only synthpop night in the UK!
I think this band since Naive Art have been a consistent quality act and there remix's by Razormaid are very playable..I love the Sound of Red Flag what more can i say!

So far, I'd have to say about the same. I've only listened to the whole thing once, but as with some of the last albums, there were some songs that I really liked ("Shadow Warrior"), and some that didn't do much for me ("Reign Down On Me").

So I guess this means we're only allowed to post positive things on this board? Who said I don't embrace creativity? Listen to the difference between Naive Art and Fear of a Red Planet...the brothers have shown tremendous growth and creativity and I keep buying their music. Keep in mind, I didn't say it was a bad album at all...I just said it sounded a bit redundant...there's a big difference. I did give a somewhat negative review of the bitter end which I still feel it deserved. I feel I have a right to express my opinion on their music when i've spent alot of money buying their releases and merchandise over the past few years and alot of time listening to their music. So, I guess its wrong for me to say that out of all of their releases, I haven't been as happy with the last two...so shoot me. I loved every release prior to Bitter End and Codebreaker...and I'll still buy their stuff in the future. I think the Crypt and Fear of A Red Planet were SPECTACULAR, easily two of my favorite albums of all time by any band. Is that positive enough? You have to understand that not every release a band puts out is going to appeal to every fan. Look at how Depeche Mode divided their fans with Ultra and Exciter...every group has these issues. As for the "scene" growing, I didn't see anyone here besides me going the the DM fan sites or sending e-mails out to DM mailing lists letting them know about the new RF releases. Conversely, I also didn't go to those same sites and tell them that I thought the latest releases weren't up to par IN MY OPINION as I didn't want to spread a negative vibe among people who might not yet be fans. I didn't see you defending them on those same message boards when DM fans called them DM wannabees. Call me a negative sh@##y fan I guess. I felt that the band sponsored message board would embrace people for their opinions and honest discussion. Instead, you want it to be Fantasyland, where the only opinion that matters is the one that's the same as yours.

Hum..so far on the album I like Eternal Flame, Unbreakable, Shadow Warrior, and Fallen Angel. I like others too, but these really stand out for me, especially Unbreakable.
Oh yeah, and I forgot to add, the album is quite different in my opinion. Yet, it keeps the darkness that I love but blends it with some dancier beats. Check out MP3.com and here at Electrogarden to hear songs and clips.

Hey bongsteve, you've made a good point. You can't expect everyone to like every song and every album equally. Even I don't here in my Fantasyland. ;) I guess I was a bit harsh on you....sorry. We're all fans of RF here and that's what matters.
~bongsteve
November 21st, 2002, 11:54 AM
Honestly, no offense taken. I completely understand and respect people getting defensive of a band and music they truly love. Try going to a dm board (like Halo's) and you can see how passionate and defensive (and very often rude) people can get if you say anything negative about the mode.

Ok.. I have no idea about the code. Can you at least tell me where to look for it? Any clues at all? I've looked over the insert several times now, and all I can think of is that the binary on the front might represent something...
~sassygrl21
November 24th, 2002, 09:15 AM
RF has something on their website about the code. It says to look within. It's true and not that hard. I found it pretty quickly. I won't give it away, but you get a nice treat once you break it. :)
Also, on the site, they mention that tempo of the song Unbreakable is 133 half time. (musician lingo I guess) Its one of my favorites on the album.

strange world...
i know people that say negative things are not that welcome but as an old red flag fan i will give my statement anyway. in my eyes, codebreaker is a very boring album without any creative spirit. i even did not like the way of marc and chris doin the vocals. i guess 2002 was not a real good year for the boys (including that horribble bitter end thing) .
they said it did not take loads time to write and produce the new album...well i am shure of that...it also sounds as if it was made quite fazzzt.
hope noone gets angry about my con-speech, its "just" my way of hearin it. but nevertheless i feel sorry about the fact i am loosing my fave snythpop artist.
noone round that had the same feelings while listening to codebreaker?! noone annoyed on that 133 bpm thing that makes all tracks get into same direction, sound similar in a way. noone angry about the distortions that rotten the vocals...the heartless way the tunes roll downwards.
ooops...maybe i should shut up before i get banned. also i dont wanna be on sassys shooting list ;0)
ah well: my fave was "THE CRYPT and EaC". They shure are completely different so maybe its no wonder i dont feel comfortable with that industrial thing.
hope for a better 2003,
greetings,
tom

I kinda agree with you Tom (but I do LOOOVE the bitter end)
However, codebreaker is a good album, as everything red flag has done, but still, it feels a little bit...boring. Everything sounds pretty similar, as you said due to the 133 bpm thing...
Iīm against putting different filters on the vocals, thatīs why codebreaker isnīt one of my favourite albums from RF.
I can stand listen to the album though, it isnīt bad...just not superb!
It might had been enough with The bitter end from 2002...I donīt know.

No I'm going to agree too...After I've had it the past few weeks, it does get a bit played out after awhile...I find that after the first four or five tracks, I hear a lot of the same sequences and sounds being used...At times, it's almost as if they had this really great writing/creative spurt, and then ran with it for the extent of the album...Sorry peeps JMHO :)

Hio Tom again,
so it seems i am not completely alone with my disappointment. I guess its not easy if u re doin music on the one hand for ureself and - on the other hand for ure fans and - we wont forget its a business anyway, ure customers, the ones u support with fame, hope, pride and at least money.
but codebreaker simply seems uninspired to me. i was wondering a long time how red flag could shoot out one disc after another without getting a loss of inspiration and quality. that was already startin to get spooky. but even if i am shure marc and chris are enlighted with genius the last discs fail - especially in comparison to the great music they provided us within the last years.
it took me some days until i liked rfīs chage into darker worlds, but i really enjoyed their development into the CRYPT after some listening. also i luved the megablack box set, even if i am not thinking rfs mixes are really brilliant remix masters - their official versions are mostly the best ones.
but i know i wont get into that album and the change that took place to red flag on this album. we know each band around the globe has more tracks in store than those 10 tracks that appear on the release. but for me it seems red flag really use every line they ever write and put it on cd - even if its not worth it or deserved another mastering because its only 50% finished. maybe thats the little negative aspect if ure doin all on ure own without a label - the only negative aspect. u dont get the brake sometimes. ( i know u get this too much in a major label contract but someweher in between total liberty and a "bondage contract" lies the truth maybe)
i hope red flag will get back on the road of superb music. synthmusci that was really worth the lsitening, songlines u never forget when u hear them. music that is so good that tears could roll down while listening. melodies that even sound brilliant if u just play them on the piano (remember the great piano versions on the megablack box set)
i was just checking amazon.com - and also there people are not really happy about red flags new album. beein egoistic i hope for some brilliant ear-food in 2003. maybe i am lucky to get it. :0)
greetings to u all...and...
long live inspiration!
tom
