I've been obsessively been playing both Understand and Groove Thing, and I've even pulled out my Primal cd as well...Their music is just too awesome not to be talked about a bit more around here, so I thought I'd post this thread to show some love for them...

What's your favorite tracks, favorite lyrics, album??? Tell us all :)

I luv BNW, I saw these lads open up for Anything Box back in Aug of 96 at the Whiskey in Hollywood.. I was able to get the "Primal" tape which I think was they're first ever release... Anyways, I was hooked on "Winter Song" that summer.. I was also very lucky to see them Oct 13 96 in SLC for SYnthstock 96. They are very entertaining and the music is very fantastic... I like that "shake the disease" cover they played live during Synthstock too.... I dont have Groove Thing yet... But I do like"Understand" and "Primal." They are good, must be a Detroit thang...

I'm right there with you Slippy!!! Understand is the greatest album so far for me, just so full of emotion and dancability within a dramatic song...They pull it off brilliantly!!!

I also got Primal cd recently...I really like it a lot as well, some great tunes on it...Wonder why they almost entirely dropped the guitars after that one??? Although the guitars on the song Understand are a nice touch in place of a string section in the chorus :)

Man how I wish I could have been there at The Whiskey to see em' live...Now that was probably one killer show :)

My favorite BNW song has got to be the remix of "REGRET" (Universal Mix). It's kinda trancey (Robert Miles-ish) mixed with dancey synthpop. What we got is A PERFECTION !!

I wonder what're they doing now? Seems so quiet....... Are they making a new materials?

Oh yeah, I believe I saw something about BNW; however, I forgot the title........ Do they ever released the album or song with the title "2" in it? I think it's called "Alice 2" or something....with "2" in it. Maybe DAN knows about this. :-)

No I can't recall it off hand...

As far as what they're doing now??? Not exactly sure...Don't quote me on this one, but don't be suprised if we start to hear fom them before the year is over...They're due to strike with new material if you think about it...3 year intervals between each album :)

Yes in fact we are working on new BNW material!!!!!

As far as who is single and who is married? Well I am the only single man left in this band. Charlie and Brian both got married Ya there not as smart as me!!! They still live up in cold northern state of MI and I live here in FL and it's hot as hell down here. I send them music tracks up to the great north and they work on vocals and guitar. We haven't recorded anything yet but are still working on some demo's. Soon you will here some ass kickin!! beatz rockin!! bombs droppin!! synth driven electronic music....

stay tuned.......

This is great news, after three long years more material. It was STONE that reeled me into the Modern Synthpop scene. I've also grown quite fond of MOMENT OF SILENCE and ALL THAT YOU CAN OFFER.

Yeah, you're definitely the smarter one, LARS. You stay single & even pick a warmer place to live in. I wouldn't mind moving to West Palm Beach myself....... (it sucks here, we got no beaches ! )

I'm not clear on everything but Primal was (I think) the first album BNW put out back in 1993...Lars (sadly) wasn't with the band yet...The style is very early 90's synthpop, but with a lot of guitars on it...I really like though...Early versions of Winter Song and Fall Of A Tear are on it :)

Heres the breakdown on the info for Primal:

Band Members-
C. Michael Wollborg
David Sterling
Brian Unger

Additional Musician/guitarists-
Martin Foulkes
Kevin Holevar
Amy Marvin
Jason Glass

Released in 1993 on-
Shamano Music

Tracklisting-
Hearts Run Free
Hypocritical World
Wish On The Stars
Never Got Over You
There Was Only You
Winter Song
Sex Craze
Crying Out
One Step Back
Know You Want To
Realize
Lies
Woh Woh
Fall Of A Tear
New Dawn

BTW- Lars, you're added input on Fall Of A Tear and Winter Song on Understand is definately an improvement on the songs...Lars you rock, BNW rocks, it's all good!!! :D

Thanks for the info, DAN.

I'll just stick with "Understand" album for now.

Oh yeah, I was just curious about something. This may sound silly. :-) But I just love the lustful background vocal on BNW's songs such as : "Nothing." Whose 'lustful' vocal was that? "Aaaahhh......." :-)

Brave New World's first album was "Dreams of a Brighter Day". It included "Fall of a Tear" and "New Dawn" and "Here and Gone" and a fan favorite "Believe in you" . It was very early Depeche sounding and was only released on cassette. The album "Primal" was released in 93 shortly after I met Brian at a DM concert and the only reason we talked to each other was because I was wearing an Anything Box t-shirt and he wondered how I had gotten it. We instantly became friends and at the time and I had my own band going on so I didn't join BNW untill after a year or so. So I would say I came into the picture around the middle of 95. I was really into the synth-pop sound and wanted the sound to be more synth and less guitar. I wasn't crazy about Primal's sound but some of the songs on thier I thought were really good like "Winter Song" and "Hearts Run Free" as well as "Hypocritical World". Some songs like "Crying out" and "One Step Back" don't even sound like BNW. I actually remixed "Winter Song" and "Never got over you" we used them live but never recorded them. Just a little history for ya..................

Brave new World id my wife's favorite synthpop band and one of mine. It was the first group I got into after I found synthpop again back in 95.

I was lucky enough to see them in concert openning for Alphaville and I hung out with Lars and Brian during Alphaville's set. They are really cool guys and it was fun to chat with them there and at the park earlier in the week. It was pretty cool to stand around and shoot the bull with them and Mark (Cosmicity) was with us too.

Anyway, good to hear that you're keeping the music coming Lars. I look forward to hearing it. Please keep us posted.

Forever a Brave New World fan.

Paul

I thought BNW was of no more! Glad to see they are going to release new material. I have been a fan since 95', wow, I can't believe it's been 7 years! Anyway, do you guys have a web site anymore? I remember checking back with the web site for years and no new news. Then, poof, it was gone. That's why I thought the band was gone. Anyway, do you have a web site? You should really announce you are working on new material!

I had the same problem today I went to check out there site and it was gone. Hey, Lars where did your site go? Anyway I really wanted to say what A tremendous group Brave New World is and I hope you guys never stop putting such great music out . Its very pleasant to see members of A group like theirs on line and interacting with their fans. An one more thing I finally got the Apologies single several days ago and I can't stop listening to it. It's one my favorite songs they do besides "regret" Is it true that its out of print . It has taken me awhile to track this single down now that i have it I really love all the mixes of Drug and the Neuroactive remix of Apologies.

Everytime that I heard about BNW I remember the AV's show that was cancelled here in Rio. And they will open this show.

So I lost the chance to see both alive for the first time. :/

I don't know much about BNW, I need to buy some of his CDs soon... I know they are great alive.

I'd be willing to trade my Apologies single for Wave In Head's PROGRESS single.

Or if you can offer me something else, maybe I'd think about it.

I'd be all over that trade in a heartbeat, but unfortunately I don't have anything from Wave In Head in my collection at the moment, sorry :(

Ok, not sure where to post this, so I'll just revive this old thread. First off, I'm super-stoked to hear that there's new BNW in the works. I think I've finally got all their CDs thanks to Todd's holiday sale. :) (Picked up Apologies off Amazon shortly after it went out of print.)

Anyway, my question is (since I just got this CD today), what's up with the tracklisting for Understand? track -1? and if Tydirium 13 is the track before track one (hit play, then go back to about -1:09....you *did* know that was there, right? ;) ), then what's the title of track 13?

You know I'm not sure, but I can tell you it's hell, and I've made quite a few mistakes trying to make compilations to put in my car changer *LOL*!!!
