Okay so Opium, and Three Empty Words??? What is their sound similar to??? I mean, I know they probably have tons of originality, I'm just wondering if maybe you could compare them to anyone in particular to give me an idea :)

It's hard to say . maybe early De/Vision. They used backing vocals a lot, and that has a really nice effect. The lead singer sounds like the lead singer of Elegant Machinery to me. Buy "Opium" you wont be dissapointed.

Like old de/vision...that sure sounds interesting.
I was just like Dan when it came to this band, had heard so much about them, but never anything WITH them...so I guess I will check out their homepage, and I might find something interesting...

You know what I discovered while I was listening to the samples on their homepage.

1. I didnīt like it too much...too boring...nothing happens in the songs, except Hope!!!

2. The band is from SWEDEN! Saw that when I was scrolling down the list over the songs...and saw that there was a couple of tracks in Swedish..oh yeah!

Opium is a brilliant album.. a completely engrossing listen from beginning to end. If you like darker, more moody synthpop, you will absolutely love it. And the CD single for "Can't See This" is really good too.. and the "One Roman Choir" MCD has two videos on it!

ATTENTION ALL INTERESTED IN KTV!!!

If you can, you MUST pick up the Erina single. Or find some compilation with the Erina (Video Edit). This is the best accomplishment by this band. I found the original to be too dark and boring however the Video Edit is definitely (imo) one of the best tracks of the nineties and in my opinion KTV's best work yet.

Anybocy know what I'm talking about??? Anybody heard what I have heard???

I would be curious to know, if you can still buy that album in the states. As KTV unfortunately split up some time ago, it is almost impossible to get hold of any of their material here in Europe. I have been trying to find the album, but had no luck.

As to how they sound. I would also compare them to Elegant Machinery. My favorites are on Opium and would be 'One Roman Choir', 'Religion' but Three Empty Words did not grab me that much.

I know you can pick up "Three Empty Words" and "Ar Som Blad" at Poo-Bahs in Pasadena, Ca. (http://www.poobah.com). They might ship it to you. You can also still pick up "Opium" and the "Destinies" single at Unspun Records in San Fransisco (http://www.unspunrecords.com). Each release is under $20 American.

I donīt know if I can agree with you people with that one.
Sure, they are both from the great country Sweden (;)) but when it comes to the sound, EM is more happy while KTV bores me to death

I donīt know if I can agree with you that. sure they are both from the same country (sweden) but still they doesnīt have anything more in common, at least not when it comes to the sound. EM is more happy while KTV bores me to death

quitwater...

it shouldn't be all that diifcult to obtain ktv-albums in europe (it'll save you some in postage).

check out the site of the bands' swedish label october/energy records at:

http://www.energy-rekords.se/

under 'mailorder' you'll find the different on-line stores that sell the labels albums (amongst those ktv). these includes stores in scandiavia and germany.

I saw them live a few years ago with Anything Box and Cosmicity at the CMJ show in NY. I'm pretty sure it was at the Bat Cave. They put on a good show.

Dont think i ever got around to picking up the album though. I know a friend has it. She says its prety good.

Ah! and talking about where I found a long time ago the news about the band that aren't listed on his "news" section at his official site, if you go to the official site and hit "Kie's Page" you'll find that they are recording a new album to be released in 2002.

I think that isn't possible, but maybe we got a new one for 2003.
What I hope a lot! :)

here the direct link:

Yeah, I really liked the tracks you sent me. :) You always send me great stuff. I bet you will have the demos in no time.

What does Kie the Vez mean? Does it mean kill the jury? I was at their website earlier this morning looking, but I was too tired to have anything sink in.

just about anything you get from them will be great. they have a pretty solid catalog of stuff although not an extremely large catalog. a lot of really good stuff. you really can't go wrong here.

Opium is not only their best cd, it was one of the top 2 or 3 cd synthpop releases of that whole year. A different drum still has their full cds. I know they split, but any chance they may get back together for another project/full cd?

As Freddy said above, they were rumored to be working on a new album that was supposed to be out this year...I've not seen it yet, and I haven't been able to find anything that would confirm they're in the studio either...I guess we're all just stuck waiting at the moment :)

KIEfer Sutherland + Emilio EsteVEZ = Kie the Vez

at least that's the explanation I got from Jesper...although he was probably just f'in with me...guy's a bit twisted (in a good way).

Well...
From what Iīve heard, the name Kie the Vez means:
Kie is a name. The Vez is spanish for spiritual being.

And no, it doesnīt mean Kill the Jury. This is a song made by the band (they have always had problems with the jury in a competition every year, thatīs why they made this song)

Check out their homepage for more info.

I consider this (obviously Ultravox-influenced) song a modern synthpop classic. Do any of their other songs rise to that height? I get the feeling from this thread that might be their best song.

Completely off-topic: (But looking for similar input) Anyone got thoughts on the band Vitesse? I Started a thread here, but no-one replied.

"the vez" in spanish? Maybe they mean "el vez" which is the mexican elvis, which would translate their name as:

Quien es elvis? [kie-t-vis] (Who is ELVIS?)....makes sense now.

Why exist so many languages! hehehe :)

We're addicted to the song "Regret" (universal edit). Addicted. And probably so behind the times.
