Someone told me to buy their album MCMXC...and oh I wanted to be nice so I did that...now I´m sitting here with some new age stuff and falling asleep every second or something.
Ok, it was ok, I can hear that many bands got influences from these songs....but...where is the charm?

Well....waaaaaaaaay back in the day ... 1991 or so....that was the IN thing. That WAS the "charm" thing. All new agy and stuff.
Now...more then a decade after it's initial release....and us being exposed to alot of electronic trancy music (this is starting to sound like the horror movie thread), it is just not the same. Once again, Avil making us feel old. heheheh :D

1991... I was 7 back then...hehe...I didn´t even listened to music when I was 7.
hehe, never thought that enigma was "IN" once...
But...it´s interesting to hear this stuff...I think.
Especially track 8, that must have been a very influencial song...am I right? or...?

Let's see...in 1991 I was living in Schweinfurt, Germany...and Enigma was big in that area.
Yes...Sadness was one of the singles if I remember right. I recall going to the local record store there and buying 3 of their 12" singles.
ahhhh. memories.
Oh well...I no longer have them. Sold them on eBay and the video tape I bought as well. *sniff*...now I'm kinda missing them.

Wow, it's scary to hear that "back in the day" refers to the early 90's!! Arrrrggghh!! I'm feeling old today. I remember back in the day (1986) jammin' to Psychedelic Furs and New Order.
In 90-91 when I first heard Enigma (in college) I thought I was mellowing out. I hear that album got more "action" than Barry White!!!

AVIL --- ENIGMA’s MCMXC is one of the biggest sellers back when it first came out. You can see how they have influenced lots of bands such as: Red Flag, Delerium, Camouflage, Gregorian, etc. It’s a ground-breaking album for a New Age/Electronic genre in early 90’s.
You just have to give it a few more listenings……. It’s a great album to listen after a long stressful day, especially at night.
Turn the lights off, the volume up, close your eyes………and you’ll feel LUSTFUL. I don’t wanna get into details here (since AVIL is still 17), but I personally found it’s a perfect album to listen to when you’re with someone you love….together…..in the dark……holding on to each other……. And you know the rests.

You americans and your laws...I know your age limit when it comes to more than hugs is 18, am I right? Here in Sweden it´s 15...
however...you might be right...could be very relaxing..
I think I will love this album after the hundreds of indian songs I´ve downloaded for my mum...(she was born in india, so she loves these songs...) I´m dying.

i love this album...great for extended work sessions at the computer or fallign asleep. and yeah they were big in germany...both of my 7 inch picture discs are from germany../
i first became interetsed in enigma when i heard return to innocence and also when i found they sampled u2's 'ultraviolet' without permission. cretu did a lot of that it seems. great disc though...

Hey, the first one had too old sound, almost songs are instrumental, after the second the things comes close to the perfection.
Try the 2nd or the 3rd, they are really great! :)
I still like the 1st one today, but is little boring compared with the others. Try also Andru Donalds and Sandra, both produced by Michael Cretu (Enigma), really great NEW synthpop.

I am feeling old too. "back in the day" is 80's, not 90's. I first heard Enigma's "Sadeness" during college also. Specifically the remixed version first. I've been a fan of their (his) music ever since.
Avil - Recently Enigma released a "best of" CD called "Love Sensuality and Devotion" as well as a companion remixed version. I highly recommend them if you liked their first CD. And by the way, Enya (as you mentioned) has been around even longer than Enigma. In the 80's she used to belong to Clannad, and her first solo CD "The Celts" was released in 1986.

Yes, Enya is quite good. I really enjoy listening to 'The Celts'. I also enjoy 'Shepherd Moons' circa 1991...the track "Caribbean Blue" is pretty amazing. "Afer Ventus" from the same release is also very beautiful.

Enigma brings back memories for me. But I grew up listening to them, when I was 10 or 11.
You can hear the modernism in their sound on The Screen Behind The Mirror. And yes, I also agree that LS&D is worth getting if you liked their early material.

To be perfectly honest, I've always thought that Enya was incredibly boring. Never really got into her stuff. Was not the same with Enigma though. I could really sink my teeth into their music back in the early 90s. Haven't liked much of their more recent stuff though.

No, I can't stand Britney. I am a teacher and every year our school has a talent show. Every year for a month and a half, I hear Britney songs being danced to by at least 5 different groups of kids. I walk quickly through the auditorium and into the office to do what I have to do. It's even worse now that I am in the building because I am just down the hall from the auditorium and can hear it. That's when I grab one of my cds and crank it up. I know what I like and what I don't like. I don't like Britney. Call me narrow minded, or whatever. That's just me.

I have Enigma's "The Cross Of Changes" mainly just for "Return To Innocence" and "I Love You... I'll Kill You". Two great songs by the way. I don't mind their music but it is really slow and could be classified as boring in some places. Overall not a bad album nothing to write home about though. :)

Yeah, I am very selective with the world music genre. I have heard things I have like from Deep Forest and bought the first album. A lot of it is sampled voices in other languages put to a drum loop. Some of it is pretty good, but I would be lying if I said it was always on my CD player.

This band's albums are readily available on all the common music site (i.e. cdnow, etc.)
Now that I think about it...I believe I have the band's first and second albums. They are different, but nice to listen to every now and then. You may wish to find a album used through a site like www.djangos.com or listen to snippets online before you commit to a purchase. I like the music though.

I only got into Enigma in the first place because of Michael Cretu (that's the main guy <only guy?> in enigma). Pre-Enigma he was a fantastic producer of synthpop bands. He was involved in Hubert KaH and Peter Schilling (he worked on "Different Story", along with Hubert Kemmler of Hubert Kah). After that he put out a solo album which is sort of a transition... I mean, you can hear the enigma sound a bit. So of course I had to buy all of enigma's stuff. I don't care too much for their first album... it makes great background music (or movie music) but not something to sit down and listen to. After that, though, I think he got better and better. Not at all like what he did before enigma, but great anyway. I love the tracks on the most recent album that he did with the girl from Olive (I can't remember her name.. I also forgot the names of the songs, but there were 2 of them, both very good). Also, I found most of the cd singles in the past few years, and they always have a fantastic remix on them (done of course, by michael cretu).
Well, someone else might have already mentioned all this... I didn't finish reading all the other posts yet.

exactly, that's why I like it. I said they took hip-hop beats and added good music over it. I forgot which hip-hop groups they took beats from though. Hip-hip is normally too loopy for me and puts me into a trancelike sleep. Trance on the other hand does the exact opposite. :p

Hmm, it's been a while since I toyed with a Roland TR-909 drum machine, but I was under the impression that first Enigma album was predominantly one of the 909 preset drum rhythms. Maybe not...I am not certain.

I´ve taken a listen to a couple of deep forest songs...
Listening to sweet lullaby right now.
I find it a very calm song, very beautiful. The only thing that really destroys the song must be the vocals! Just terrible!!!!!!
I also heard while the earth sleeps with peter gabriel on the vocals...I think he makes a good job, but it would had been much better if the song instead had been a slow one...
too messy right now,...
And enigma
silence must be heard and gravity of love are two songs I got to hear today...they were much better than the ones I got from the XCMwhatever album....female vocals...and it sounded good :)
Christina
Thanks to the person that helped me to hear these songs.
