I was hoping someone would say something about it before I made the plunge and purchased it myself. What was it about the new album that totally surprise you? Better than you expected, or a different sound?

I will probably need to pick it up. I have been meaning to get a Joy Electric album for a little while now. So many albums, so little money.

I purchased this yesterday too ...
And quite honestly it is his best effort to date. Disc one is the real treat, with all new tracks, or tracks which were otherwise only available on compilations or limited edition pressings. IN particular my favorite is "Dance to Moroder", which strikes me as a nod to the electroclash crowd. I think this may be the most club-friendly stuff JE has done to date. Moroder, and a couple of other tunes were previously available on the "Starcadia" EP, a limited edition (500) pressing which was released through Plastiq Musiq, and has long since sold out. I am kicking myself for not picking it up.
If you want to hear samples off this album, just point the web browser to http://www.mp3.com/joye ... and listen to "Dance to Moroder". It is ADDICTIVE. I think the best thing to say about this album is that he returns a bit more to the musical styles of "We Are the Music Makers" and "Old Wives Tales" EP ... more laid back, more dreamy, and not as aggressive and in your face (this doubly applies to the lyrics as well ... he's toned down the lyrical stuff (insofar as preaching his Christian beliefs) just a tad bit from the Christiansongs era) ...
Of course, if you happen to like that era, there is "Children of the Lord" over on disc #2, which is a retrospective of his greatest hits. (I still like "The North Sea" best.)

Sounds great! Need to pick it up ASAP. Why isn't Todd carrying it?
And how about this on the JE homepage:
'joyelectric documentary coming this fall!
A new DVD documentary, entitled "Picture Book" is coming this November. Released in time for the holiday season, it will feature live footage, interviews and more. Additional information will be forthcoming.'
Nice!

Now that is really interesting. It might be enjoyable to watch a documentary on one of the bands in the scene. I am not familiar with anything else similar to that on the market. I wonder if it will be in the style of DM 101.

I had no problems getting the CD at The Disc Exchange ... altho Ronnie's BEC releases have also made it here, I was even able to find the House of Wires Monogamy CD here too.

Thanks guys, but you're forgetting I'm in the almost synthless Netherlands, I need to rely on mailorder to get Joy Electric stuff.
I've ordered it through the JE homepage (needed to pick up The White Songbook too anyway).
I hope they ship worldwide, there's no info about it on the site.
