How does everyone feel about the SPOONS? What are your favorite tracks?
Personally i think SPOONS is fantastic synthpop and they were way ahead of their time. My favorite tracks are BLOW AWAY, Arias & Symphonies and One in Ten Words.
I never hear anyone speak of these guys so i am very interested in what you have to say.

Ultrasynthetic,
I am unfamiliar with Spoons. Do you have a link to their site? I did not see them on MP3. Do you know if any of their material is available online to hear?

First off, they are a Canadian band, that toured with the likes of Boy George, among others.
I only have two of thier albums(Stick Figure Neighborhood, and Arias and Symphonies),but felt that their sound didn't truly develop untill Arias and Symphonies(Thier second,"Stick Figure" was thier first).
They are alot of fun however, and very popping and bouncy!Arias and Symphonies is so upbeat,ya just want dance to it.
The song on that album,"One in Ten Words",always gets me movin.I mean,I bust out the full fledged 80's new wave dances, because nothing else will do!
I would say,if you like old Aztec Camera,Erasure, and things in that vein,The Spoons are for you.
And,it turns out that The Spoons have reformed and are actually playing quite recently. For more info, here is a link with every manner of Spoons info!Hope it blesses the curious and synth addicted!

Mind you, thier older look(for anyone interested)is far more tolerable than later on.We are talking men in some serious pink sweaters!Gasp!Very Tad and Buffy type-a-thing!Be warned!
Don't know what any other albums were like,so you'll have to investigate em yourselves.
Till then,enjoy this charming button!

Thanks for the Spoons info. They certainly had the eighties look, didn't they? I may have to research them..perhaps I will like their material.

Wow, this thread is taking me back.
Played the hell out of "Arias & Symphonies" when I was living in Calgary, Canada in the '80s. I see to (dimly) remember that their first album wasn't as good. No idea about the others listed on their web site.
Who knew they were still around?
Anyone know what they were like in concert at Synthpop Goes the World? Love to see them play L.A.!
I think I actually looked them up a year or so ago when I searched on the net for Rational Youth ... and lo and behold discovered this underground synth scene ... but didn't get a spoons hit.

Surprisingly, The Spoons didn't seem quite as out of place at SGTW as I figured they'd might. They seemed quite surprised to see the positive reaction when they performed the upbeat and catchy "Romantic Traffic" - even making a cute comment about it (they figured they'd have to stick to their "dark" material... lol). Still one of my favourites - and I can't help but laugh everytime I see that video (which is extremely rare on Much Music here in Canada) as it was shot in the subways of Toronto. ha ha! They really seemed to be enjoying themselves on stage at SGTW and sounded fantastic. The highlight for me was definitely "One In Ten Words".
Anyway, my favourite tracks by them are:
Arias And Symphonies
Blow Away
Nova Heart
Old Emotions
One In Ten Words
Romantic Traffic
If you're into retro synthpop, do check out "Collectible Spoons" (their Greatest Hits compilation).
