Synthpop needs a familiar logo. We need form a some time of music UNION!!! I am not a graphic artist, so I am not good at designing. I will put it on my website, cds, flyers, T-shirts, etc....
We need an uniform of face to let others know... This scene exist and it's strong!!! If everyone puts this logo on every cds, t-shirt, flyers, and website, people will start recongnize us.. What do you think? Am I writing nonsense?

Make sense to me ... like I said elsewhere all successfull marketing plans either have a buzz word or an identifiable logo. I think this is a great idea. The challenge will be to get the players to decide on an agreeable trademark.

What should it be like? It's for all the music? :) I like this sort of thing, I want to play around with this.

My first impression was "Hey, not a bad idea". But after thinking about it for a few more seconds, I don't think it's gonna fly. Synthpop artists already have a hard time widening their audience. Having a common media logo for the genre will only be slitting our own throats.

Synthpop fans will know of your band regardless of the logo or not, but others will more easily shrug it off as "That's a synthpop band. I can tell by that logo. No thanks."

I want people outside of the scene to hear the music. I want them to give it a chance. And I want them to label it whatever they want.

And I have no problems having someone pick up my cd by 'accident'. It might just introduce him/her to another type of music that they may enjoy.

Just my 2,

'Ripper

That's why logo is important....
In the 80s, people bought anything by WaxTrax releases..
Instead of depending on one label to provide the soultions,
using a logo to identify the music for people outside the scenes.
Familiar image will make others curious about what's going on...
You have to make things easy for others to get into...

It's sad how people think....
This scene is so tiny... smaller than polka scene...
What's wrong with labels, artists, & listeners merging?
If there is a uniform of idea, it can lead into fashion....
Fashion and music scenes always went hand with hand together...
Look at bands like Mission, Bauhaus, and Joy Division in the early 80s..
Some of them start off as art movement wearing black clothes,
and eventually transform into Goth in the late 80s...
Every music scenes can kick our ass....
Soon, Electroclash will wipe our ass ....
Should we start dropping our pants and skirts, and yell "KICK ME."
People don't want the scene to grow...
Oh well....I will keep on writing my music and mind own business...

But still our scene is too tiny for something like this.
Even if all of us got out on the streets with shirts with the special logo or whatever, it wouldnīt be enough.
I mean, I guess I could get five persons joining me, yeah ATTENTION...not...

But could be fun to have, to our little private sociaty.

We wouldn't need to do something like this if the scene was large. I still think it is a great idea. Keep thinking outside of the box. Not any one single idea will be the answer but anything that helps catch the buzz is a good thing. Great things can happen when intelligent minds enter into collusion. The thought of Electronic Music united for a common goal is an intriguing one to me. However it is probably going to take one great band with a vision hitting at the right time (ie Nirvana in 1991) to pull us out of the shadows.

this is a crazy thread... i guess thats why i clicked on it, anyway. i agree with the stargazer - if you label something it will draw more or less good/bad attention... given if it turns out for the better it still wouldnt be worth the effort because it will probably turn out ĪĪĪĪty anyway. thats life. i dont see a problem with people doing this though, i mean if people get off on this concept.. im all for it. one thing i might have against it is if the logo turns out to be something really ugly and volitile - then id probably look for them and rip them up. hehe

Well one man can make the difference.
I could climb mount everest, and threat the people with blowing the mountain away with myself on it if not everyone runs to the store and buys an album by an electronic band/artist.

I guess the first step to manage to do something like this is get me up on that damn mountan top, and after that get some attention! I guess I have to kidnap Bush too...
Thatīs a great idea. God, this will turn out perfect.

What? You totally lost me Christina. Are saying we need to get to the top of the mountain to make a difference? Well how do you suggest getting to the top of the mountain? How does President Bush fit into the discussion? The only way you get to the top of the mountain is by getting attention? Surely you must realize this??? Why do you think guys like Marilyn Manson are freak shows? Its gets them attention. Without the hype and spin he received by being a total off the wall freak his band would be mired in Industrial obscurity like so many others. Yes ... if we could magically be on top of the mountain that would make things much easier ... and it takes more than blood and sweat to get there. It takes guts, cunning and putting yourself in a position to take advantage of every opportunity afforded to you.

No more negative waves ....

I don't remember where I heard this so I may be off a bit on the quote:

"If you purposely act different or segregate yourself, people will treat you as such"

I think there's a point in there someplace :p *shrugs*

I dont know why some of you guys are hating! If people want to make logo's and use them, that's cool....it will be IMPOSSIBLE to expect everyone to conform to a "trademark" so to speak in our scene. Anyways, rock on....go for it whoever wants to do it...if you dont. No problem either. It's all love baby:)

I think the whole point of this was lost somewhere ... you are right Ginash. It is impossible to force anybody to conform to anything and a bad idea to boot. I just thought a good logo or buzz would be a good thing. It is all about the love and good music.

I made a 'SynthPop Inside' logo a while back (spoof of Intel Inside). I will gladly donate it for anyone to use. I will post it later tonight. ;)

Hey if we get a logo, great, if not, thats okay too...As long as it's something that looks cool...It doesn't even have to be all that impressive...I'm a simple man and will embrace it :)

Bring on the logos!!!

Unified fronts of any sort turn out to be good things...

The thing about "Unions" however is that they are discriminating.

What will the criteria be for a person to be able to use the logo?

What tangibles will "Unify" us?

<OR>

Will, even better, just make the logo and just talk about it here (on Modern Synthpop list, etc).... maybe it shouldn't be Genre Specific or anything, just a LOGO. Just a "SYMBOL"... and people outside of our miniscule online "buddy system" of a few thousand people will only learn to associate the symbol with a band or two they happen upon...

THAT may be how to look at the evolution of the idea...

The key, upfront, is to decide:

Is this a discriminating "CLUB" Branding or is it more of any expression of "Underground Unification". One has "acceptance criteria" attached to it which is just short of being a label without any cash :)

Dave

I think one thing that will help, is to spread the music by word of mouth to everyone you know. Friends, family ... find venues in your area which are synth-friendly. Also remember: GOTHS are our allies. Best synth-friendly bunch I have ever seen.

NukleoN: Am I allowed to use this logo for my SynthetiK release?

pop: I just had a neat idea for a logo for Pop Star Who Kills ... when I draw it up tonight I will mail it to you. Let me know if you like it, and you'll be most welcome to use it. The only thing I will say is, it's based on the Leonardo DaVinci diagram of the human body in a five pointed star encased in a pentagram circle. (I think it suits your music)

BC: Yep you can use the logo...I'll have to post it tomorrow.

NO hate over here..
I was just joking in my last post if noone understood that...

Sure there are many things we can do to get attention to our musicstyle, itīs a fun idea with the logo thing, but I still donīt think we need it. Hey, itīs MY opinion! I wont kill you people if you think something else...
