My mum asked me to burn her a cd with some songs.
She choose a couple of tunes like Baccara and Celine Dion, but the rest was up to me. She doesnīt like my musictaste, but I had to get her into it, so I put in Apoptygma Berzerk, ALPHAVILLE, Depeche Mode, New Concept among others. Cool hehehe.
She enjoyed the DM track, a remix of A question of time.
Muahahahaha!
This is my way to get another family member into the fantastic electric world...:D

What Avil, you mean you haven't converted your mum to Alphaville yet?!
Well my mum's musical tastes mainly centre around Cliff Richard, so there's no hope of me converting her to my musical tastes...
I told her once that my CD burner won't work with any Cliff Richard songs - not sure if she bought that though :)

Classic Dan answer. You gotta love Dan.
heh :)
I did the same thing Avil, but for my wife Michelle. She wasn't too much into the scene either, until I made her a few CDs. This method works.
...then again...she wasn't into Celine Dion either.

Retrofuture, how about an EBM cover of "Devil Woman"! Therin lies the road to conversion.

Would anyone really mind if Celine Dion went down in a fiery airplane disaster?
And while I'm on the subject, why was Celine Dion's (a Canadian) version of "God Bless America" played during the 4th of July fireworks celebration?

I don't have a clue when it comes to Celine, but Avil, that was a really sneaky idea...I love it!!! So did your mom freak out with the rest of the songs??? Which A-Pop songs and Alphavill songs did you use??? :)

Imagine your mom screaming aloud and singing to the chorus of Assimilate..*LOL*
If my mom listened to and sang along with the stuff I'm into, I'd probably faint from shock

Yeah, honestly, if my parents started listening to the stuff I'm listening to, I'd probably think twice about popping in that next CD. :)

My mom thought my :Wumpscut: "Bunkertor7" cd was pretty cool. She told me to turn it up.

I imagine it would be a little easier for our European EGN members to convert their parents to synth music. What do you think?
7red7
July 12th, 2002, 05:13 AM
Yeah synth music is more common in Europe, in contrast to our parents that mostly grew up with old time rock n' roll, and bubble gum pop tunes :)

I put a unoffical remix of Forever Young on the cd (Mum freaked out when she heard that it was that song)
And Apop, end of the world!
Great songs!
Mum really liked the remix of A question of time...huge!

Definatly. Like it was mentioned earlier electronic music has more airplay in general over in Europe. So it would be easier to introduce new music then it is for us Americans. Course I don't live at home anymore so I really have no hope of getting them to listen to my music.
Though my dad did take the "Synthpop Club Anthems" that I got for $2 back home with him. :)

I DREAD having to see my mother dance to ANYTHING, let alone sythpop/EBM!! LOL :D
I remember my mom asking me once what was it that I was listening to, she liked the "arrangements with the strings and stuff". It was VNV Nation.
Some other time, I was listening to some music in my room and she said "is that the same band from the other day?", cause she heard, again, some string-like arrangements in the music, almost classical in feel. I smiled and said "no mom, this band is called PIG."
I think she got scared, and left.

*LMAO* I was driving to the store with my mom earlier this afternoon and was playing my Iris Disconnect cd in the car...She commented on the nice singing, and was bobbing her head...I asked her for her honest opinion, and she said..."It's not bad, I really like his voice, it seems like good driving music, it relaxes me"...
Be afraid everyone, be very afraid-*LOL* It's already happening!!!

My mom loves dM, Martin especially. She went with me to my first dM show back in 1987. I also took my dad to see dM last year when I was in Denver. He liked them, but he liked POE better. I can't fault him for that, cuz I love POE.
Did you put any mesh songs on the disc?
Dan, my mom loves iris too. In fact, every band I listen to she thinks is either VNV Nation or iris. She's a cool mom. :)

No I didnīt do that. My mum wants upbeat songs, and at the moment I couldnīt think of any song that would fit her...
But now I have the remix of It scares me to put on another one. for next time.
And yeah, my mum thought Iris-annie would I lie to you was a pretty good song when she heard it some years ago.

My mum likes everything that got a beat in it...and sometimes a decent voice.(which means that I canīt get her into EBM)
She wants lyrics that means something like celine dionīs because you loved me (you were my eyes when I couldnīt see, you were my voice when I couldnīt speak) that kinda stuff.
No chance for Hocico...

I actually introduced my Dad to Erasure, through Abbaesque. He was a huuge Abba fan, so it was pretty easy. He actually made me make him a comp. He also liked Big Country, which isn't really synthpop, but hey, it's not The Beach Boys, which was more his style. Maybe the trick is to find a cover of the music they like, and go from there.
My p's also liked VNV when I pushed it on them in the car while visiting. *boggle*
