Trans, Techno, House, and Club have their own nights. How would we start getting our own nights and promote this scene in your local town? Come on .... start discussing....

i have an idea, why dont we just drive this genre into the ground like they did with "industrial" - i mean, its pretty much the same thing. except industrial was meant to go nowhere when it started. to tell you the truth i really dont care if synthpop goes mainstream or not, thats up to the artists. and it probably wont effect my view on the "scene" in any form.

We used to have clubs with a specific synthpop night, now we have but one...Satellite does wonders for all of us So. Cal-ers...And Frankie spins some of the coolest stuff ever...Too bad it's the only synthpop/electronic club around...

And I'm sure everyone will say, "but theres 80's clubs everywhere"...Not 80's classic new wave clubs, theres tons of them...We need more modern synthpop clubs around :)

Damn TVT. They ruined us all with their Gravity Kills and Mortal Kombat sountracks. ::shakes fist at Al Jourgensen and his dealer::

Welll, I found a local gothic club where I have been promoting the hell out of our genre and it's working, they have incorporated some modern synthpop into their repertoire. I also set myself up as the Knoxville rep for Ninthwave records and am selling Evolution, Electricity, and the ESH CD at shops here on behalf of Ninthwave. Not to mention flyers around town promoting these.

Modern Synthpop and Goth run a similiar course ... to be honest many traditional synth artists such as Gary Numan have donned the Goth genre as a way to stay alive and sell records ... viva la goth!

Goth clubs always have been fan of synthpop, but if you introduce funkier stuff, people don't want to dance to it. I hope more Goth DJs update their set list. Philadelphia's Goth DJs set lists are pretty dull...... I was thinking about making few synthpop compilation cds to give away to Philly Goth DJs....

I did that, made a compilation of some good, harder, dancy synthpop to give to our local goth dj. I also make a point of requesting the music, asking friends to request it, etc. If there's something I really like, i'll bring it with me to a club night. As long as you aren't a pest, most dj's around here anyway, are really happy that someone is bringing in new music, and actually cares about what they are spinning.

That was the experience I had too. The DJ's here were really keen on Cosmicity, Wave in Head, and Red Flag (in fact Nevermind http: got a play here thanks to my efforts).

Now I have dumped them with a copy of my Red Flag Skulls CD. :)

Saturday was my first taste of what the seattle scene has to offer and I was surprised to hear a great selection of music by Dj Hana Solo - She plays the works .. synthpop, trance, industrial, even power noise.

my opinion has always been - work it into the clubs you already have .. or start a club with the idea that all electronic music should be played together - it is all about dancing ..

Yeah, we had a cool club down here that did that for awhile. Seemed to be working out fairly well. Too bad it closed its doors *pout whine sniffle*

I think a big part of it has to do with the people/fans/followers of synthpop.

It's not that difficult to book a small venue/club/bar/lounge to promote the music or have a synthpop night, on a slow night, like Mondays or Tuesdays. But, if the initial group of fans (people who would already go to these type of scenes), don't show up because it's a Monday or Tuesday, forget about walk-ins or conversions. It ain't gonna happen.

Here in NYC, we have a somewhat "scene". It's always mixed into 80s stuff or goth clubs. There are venues where you can hear your synthpop on at least 3-4 days of the week (different venues of course). For example, Monday nights at a bar starting at 10-11pm. Then Thursday at a small club mixed with 80s stuff, or Depeche Mode night, etc. And you have Fridays and Saturdays where synthpop is thrown into the mix at larger venues but predominantly goth clubs.

Point at hand is that even in NYC, the synthpop scene is minimal at best. I'm confident that their are way more fans than there is a scene for it. Alot of people love the music, but stay out of the scene. Im sure their are many members of EG that are big synthpop fans but have never stepped into a synthpop club. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but that's just the way it is.

I'm one of those people that loves Synthpop and i've never been to a club that plays it and i never been to a concert, well i almost did at Synthcon, but i had to leave after i found out the news about it, cause i had to work he next day, anyway's, i live in San Diego and they have a few clubs here that play this, but i just spend all my time with my daughter and like it that way, i do spend about $300 on cds a month, so i guess i'm doing a little part in supporting the scene. My last count of cds i had was over 1000 and that was about a year ago, i've bought so many more since then, my collection is growing pretty well and yet i still don't know what the Synth scene is like, except the music, i always wonder what it would be like to have friends that love Synth like me.

Later,
STEVO

Heh. Yeah of course I remember good old Kontrol Factory, my girlfriend (at the time) worked for Mike. She did Coat Check and the door. I still hang out with the core group who brought you the weekly klub, they all go to this club on Tuesdays nights at the Derby. It's not so much a club as a bunch of people hanging out and listening to a good mix of all sorts of music. It always amazed me just how popular KF was. It was known world wide, just like Das Bunker. Gerber, one of the DJs from KF is of course still spinning music, which is cool. Speaking of still spinning, I'm meeting with someone today to discuss my possible spinning of music at their club on Fridays. If you're interested, I'll keep you posted.

Oh man thats awesome news!! Yes please keep me posted, I'd attend the club religiously every week!!! Chris, you have to be one of the few exceptions I'm talking about around here, you know what you're doing behind the tables :)

Gerber is a great D.J. as well, I also like what Frankie does at Satellite also, especially during the modern synthpop nights!!!

Happy Listening To All!!!

Thanks! I do try. I may not know all the fancy tricks but I do think I have a good sense of music and flow. Besides, it's all about having a good time, right? That means I have to pull out my decks and get to practicing again, I haven't spun for quite some time. The small set I did at SynthCon can't count because it was so short (4 or 5 songs I think) but at least in those songs I had someone ask me about two of them. Beware, I like to spin material by Goteki...who are only the best cybergoth band on the planet. If you haven't heard me spin them and wonder what they sound like, do yourself a favor and head on over to http://www.goteki.com and listen to the song "Geisha Deconstruct". Anyway, that meeting never took place. Damn people left me waiting and never showed up. I dislike unprofessional people.

I love these nights! By far my most favorite time to go to Satellite. He needs more of them but he's always so hesitant to do them because he's fearful that his attendance will drop. Most of the people there are there for the 80's classix and New Wave he plays and not so much the "Modern Synthpop", which is sad.

Very true...I love New Wave as much as the next guy, but the Modern Nights are amazing!!!

I hope you end up getting your meeting though, it would be awesome to have you spinning again :)

Hey maybe I'll see ya at Satellite sometime...

Play It Loud!!!
