View Full Version : Virtual Electroclash Compilation (downloads)

I thought I'd compile these downloads out of the huge electroclash discussion, just for fun, to make a compilation thread.

These are downloads of spoof tracks made of electroclash songs or sounds. Everybody is invited to make a song to add to this virtual compilation, but you must stick by this rule: you can't spend more than 2 hours writing and recording it!

Here are the tracks so far:

Commie "We Got Signed"
http://www.djintrovert.com/commie.htm

Fishookspooner "Resurge"
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/fishookspooner.html

Turd Ferguson "Alan Cumming"
http://www.gingersnapp.com/turd.html

If you pull together a new track, add it to this thread and the compilation will get all the more exciting! Note: You only make fun of those you love :-) This is to have fun, with total respect to the original bands for their successes, not to be too malicious, so pull out your Playstation and get recording! It's your chance to get a moment in the spotlight!

-Todd

PS. If this virtual compilation is successful, we'll do a futurepop one!

I think this is a total disrespect to the artists who have the "electroclash" sound. (i.e. the Faint, Soviet, etc....). Why should musicians on this site make parody songs for their own amusement, while insulting others? I personally like this style of music before the media started calling it "electroclash." You might think this is funny, but it's not. This is a pure insult to the artists who got scapegoated into being called "electrocalsh." How would we like it if some people made parody synthpop songs on a techno website for example?

That's easy to say, if I was in an "electroclash" band, I would say: "they most really love me, that's why they are making fun of me." I actually do not really care, just think about what you do.

Hmmm. If you're upset by these parodies of "Electroclash" songs and think parodies shouldn't be made then maybe you should e-mail Weird Al who made his living off of parodies and tell him how he's shown no respect for the artists....oh wait, this was a joke right? Damn, I must be slowing down in my old age. As for Synthpop parodies, oh I have heard my fair share, along with techno and industrial parodies (industrial polka anyone?). It's all in good fun. I'm sure you would think it was funny if the parody was about a style you disliked.

synthpop2002_1... I don't understand why you're upset about it. I love Soviet. I've traveled to see them in concert. I'm about to buy a reissue fo their album for two new tracks. And did I mention the girl they have on stage is REALLY cute? Wow.

Anyway, I think they're great. And so I made fun of them. I wouldn't record a song like that for a band I hated, that would be stupid. I like a lot of the "electroclash" music as well, though I think the name is kinda stupid. I like some Joy Electric, Ladytron, The Faint and a few others. So I don't see how I'm being disrespectful.

And for the record, when I get my own album out, I hope someone makes a parody song from it. It will serve to remind me that none of this should be taken TOO seriously. It's just music, and it's just for fun, you know :).

You guys are making alot of assumptions here. Some artists like parody's and some artists dont. Weird AL is a bad example, he basically parodies songs that are popular to make $$$. Not all artists approve of what he does, so dont assume it's all in good fun. (i.e. Coolio was pissed off at him for redoing "Gangster's Paradise").

People on this board dont seem to have respect for "electroclash" so that is the main reason for doing these parodies ("you can't spend more than 2 hours writing and recording it! ") Using the moniker of "this is to have fun, with total respect to the original bands for their successes" is outrageous.

ok, heres the low-down for your dealio, all of us either a. like electrotrash and are for having a joke about it or b. dont care for electrotrash and dont care or thinkthe joke is funny but dont care anyway thereby canceling it all out to begin with. no one leaves angry the way i see it, but anyway - i like joking around on the internet because its the only place some people -can- do it, so... whatever thsi is stupid im goin to pinch a loaf which is fun. kthx

oh yeah check out my remix of "microsize boy" on acidplanet.com just do a search for "amigatrash".

Thanks for the words raven0us. The only thing I don't like about electroclash is the name. Where did they come up with that? hehehe.

Actually Wierd Al just does it to be funny. He never has any bad intentions. He makes his own songs because after a while he learned he was actually a pretty decent musician, had a decent band, and it would be fun.

Wierd Al is a very rich man.

And Weird Al can take a joke without firing off "innocent" questions which are really intended to take shots at three musicians who decided to have a little fun one afternoon :).

And to think, I've even been considering doing an entire album of parody synthpop cover songs. I've got five of the songs written already. I dunno if people could take it without getting angry though.

Pft. I'd like to hear them. I can laugh at myself just as well as I laugh at others. I say you do them and put them up. If you're offended by parodies and don't like them, then those people shouldn't follow the link. What songs did you parody?

Seraphim... the Soviet one is the only song I've recorded, but below are the titles (and brief descriptions) of some of the tracks I've written. I've got a few more in my head, and a few in the notebook.

Again, keep in mind, all of these are songs I like in the first place. When I first started writing parody songs earlier this year, I decided it would be stupid to write songs about bands I didn't like.

Nevermind 0.9
(Based on Red Flag's "Nevermind HTTP")
About a band who can't hold their drinks, need to wear more clothing and sell way too much merchandise.

Modeclones Forever
(Based on Freezepop's "Freezepop Forever")
About the Depeche Mode clone/Gahanabe phenomenon. Bands who just can't be original. I made a song in their honor.

Skip
(Based on The Echoing Green's "Trip")
About a sadistic elementary school hall monitor.

Weird Al Yankovic once did a great Devo-like parody entitled "Dare To Be Stupid". I remember seeing a "Behind the Music" where on of the Devo members said "I hated him [Al] for it"... I could never figure out if he meant being parodied or the fact that the end result sounded more Devo than Devo. :)

/Jan-Erik

PS: I know Nirvana considered themselves "famous" once Weird Al had parodied them.

Joel : Actually, truth be told, I only discovered the Macha Loved Bedhead song "Believe" yesterday while listening to Brainwashed Radio. I thought it was great, I've never heard a Cher song so brilliantly covered so I tracked it down online and downloaded it, I'm sure I'll be buying the full album soon if the rest of it is like this. Is it? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Mark : The idea for the parody of the Red Flag song cracks me up. It takes me back to their show in LA when they played with Anything Box, they were so drunk they couldn't even remember the words to their own songs. Worse yet, they'd start singing one song then finish another. I still say you should get to recording them, just for ¤¤¤¤s 'n' giggles of course.

actually, that was mark mothersbaugh that said that. he was beeing cheeky as well. he said something about wishing he'd written that song or somesuch.

useless bit of trivia: mark mothersbaugh, who wrote nearly everything of devo's, also did the music for such cartoons as 'rugrats' and 'wild thornberrys'...

hey man, dont you even do that. dont leave liquid television in the dark here, this was the most amazing show ever - which mothersbaugh also composed music for "in the opening intro" - yeah, so that being said id like to say if you havnt heard the track or seen this cartoon you can pick up the DVD "wet shorts - best of liquid television" off amazon.com or whereever dvds are sold im guessing.

seraphim, you can check out the lyrics to Nevermind 0.9 if you like. I'm still not sure if that should be the title or not (was referring to blood/alcohol level with the 0.9). Oh well. Hope no one gets angry over this :).

raven0us : Wasn't "Liquid Television" a Mtv show or am I thinking of something else. It consisted of animated shorts and also had Aeon Flux, right?

Mark : Those lyrics are some funny ass ¤¤¤¤. Now I wasn't at that Los Angeles show, mind you but I have it on good authority that is how it pretty much went down. I was never a big Red Flag fan but the person who told me of their performance (or lack of one) that night has never listened to them again. To this day I can't believe that they showed such disrespect for their fans. The only people who didn't seem to mind so much were drunk themselves. Oh well. Like I said, I have never been a fan of the Red Flag boys. The only reason I liked the first album was because of the producer and its DM sound.

Joel : I don't know how much "indie rock" I can handle. I like some of it but off all the styles of music I listen to, I get tired of that style more quickly than the others. No to say I discredit the bands at all, my favorite is Modest Mouse. Though I do like this more electro-acoustic sound. I'll look into the bands you mentioned. Thanks!

OK, OK, I'm sorry I brought attention to the spoofs and cranked one out myself. For the record, I really like Soviet's album and also enjoyed hearing Fischerspooner (though I got tired of it really fast). So, I thought it was just good clean fun to do this. Heck, if anybody wants to parody other synthpop bands, I'm fairly certain I would enjoy it too, just because I like a good parody. My favorite comedies are often ones that make fun of our own society, and I own ever box set (and the new DVD's) of The Simpsons, etc. becuase they mock pretty much everything about our society, but oh well. I do know people who think those kind of things are completely insulting, and apparently there will be those who find any spoofs of electroclash to be insulting too, so I should have kept that in mind before posting the links.

My apologies to those who were insulted. I guess that was irresposible of me.

Insulted? Man some people need to take themselves less seriously if they were.

RF: Every once in a while I get hit in the face with a message with splatterings of vitriol towards them guys. They not play nice? (Not a huge fan of their music but not exactly becoming a big fan of what appears to be some nasty politics either)

Those were hilarious parodies.. thanks for the laugh!

Don't you mean "This Is a Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About"? I really like that album but I would have to say that "Lonesome Crowded West" is my favorite album. It was the first Mouse album I heard and bought. I really liked the songs, "Out of Gas", "Jesus Christ Was an Only Child" and "Teeth Like God's Shoeshine" from that album. A friend of mine in Pennsylvania turned me on to them, now if only I could get my friends to realize the joy that is the Mouse :p
