What are some of your favorite lyrics? Today this song just hit a strange chord with me, very moving.

In a nowhere bar-room on the east side of the city
There was a strange smell of burning outside in the street
I was giving a sermon like the son of a preacher
I was high on revolution and wild with belief
Across the table she was lighting a cigarette
And in the light of the flame her eyes flashed fury as she
turned to me
She said - you're never going to save the world
If you can't save me

On Calvary Hill, the sky turned black
And the wind blew the dust in the blistering heat
But the heavens were empty, no angels came
The only sound I remember was the crying of Mary and the
mother's weep
And she cried out - you're never going to save the world
If you can't save me
It's all vanity and you're never going to save the world
If you can't save me

Our instruments have no way of measuring this feeling
Can never cut below the floor, or penetrate the ceiling.
In the space between our houses, some bones have been discovered,
But our procession lurches on, as if we had recovered.

Draconian winter unforetold.
One solar day, suddenly you're old.
Your little envelope just makes me cold,
Makes destination start to unfold.

Our documents are useless, or forged beyond believing.
Page forty-seven is unsigned, I need it by this evening.
In the space between our cities, a storm is slowly forming.
Something eating up our days, I feel it every morning.
Destination, destination.

It's not a religion, it's just a technique.
It's just a way of making you speak.
Distance and speed have left us too weak,
And destination looks kind of bleak.

Our elements are burned out, our beasts have been mistreated.
I tell you it's the only way we'll get this road completed.
In the space between our bodies, the air has grown small fingers.
Just one caress, you're powerless, like all those clapped-out swingers.
Destination, destination.

Personal favorite from Dulcinea is Windmills, but my curreent lyrics I can't get out of my head are:

In a manner of speaking
I just want to say
That I could never forget the way
You told me everything
By saying nothing
In a manner of speaking
I don't understand
How love in silence becomes reprimand
But the way I feel about you is beyond words

Oh give me the words
Give me the words
That tell me nothing
Oh give me the words
Give me the words
That tell me everything

In a manner of speaking
Semantics won't do
In this life that we live
We only make do
And the way that we feel
Might have to be sacrificed

So in a manner of speaking
I just want to say
That like you
I should find a way
To tell you everything
By saying nothing

Love sucks a**...Well at least it does now...The message is kinda obvious in this song...Mart sure knows how to pick his covers...:)

In a manner of speaking from Martin Gore's Counterfiet E.P. I've always liked that song, and it seems to fit right now... :)

Adrift again 2000 man
you lost your maps,
you lost the plans
did you hear them yell,
"land damn it land"?
you say you can't
well I hope you can
I hope you can
How's it goin 2000 man
welcome back to
solid ground my friend
I heard all your controls
were jammed
well it's just nice
to have you back again

But I guess they still
dont understand
and they can never understand
and they said go find 2000 man
and they said tell him
we've got new plans
but instead I'm here
to tell you, friend

I believe they want you to give in

Are you giving in 2000 man?
(did you love this world and did this world not love you?)

Are you giving in 2000 man?
dont give in 2000 man.

Color Theory - Everything I thought I had to be

The Image I saw reversed on the wall,
spoke to me
reflected my hopes and told horoscopes
of things to be
I promised myself I'd be someone else
long before now
The Mirror of youth distorted the truth
and weighed me down,
weighed me down

Everything I thought I had to be
was a childish charade
just a myth that I made
to look outside myself
Everything I thought I had to be
was a thousand foot wall
since nobody at all
is everything I thought I had to be

I dabbled in schemes, and astronaut dreams
at age twelve
We all need to see a hero-to-be
in ourselves
An unfounded pride will stumble and slide
into guilt
A sense of defeat
The ghost of deciet
Haunts me still
Haunts me still

Everything I thought I had to be
was a childish charade
just a myth that I made
to look outside myself
Everything I thought I had to be
was a thousand foot wall
since nobody at all
is everything I thought I had to be

To the soul's desires
The body listens
What the flesh requires
Keeps the heart imprisoned

What the spirit seeks
The mind will follow
When the body speaks
All else is hollow

I'm just an angel
Driving blindly
Through this world

I'm just a slave here
At the mercy
Of a girl

Oh I need your tenderness
Oh I need your touch
Oh I dream of one caress
Oh I pray too much

To the soul's desires
The body listens
What the flesh requires
Keeps the heart imprisoned

What the spirit seeks
The mind will follow
When the body speaks
All else is hollow

You keep me waiting
For the promise
That is mine

Please stop debating
Please stop wasting
Your time

Oh I need your tenderness
Oh I need your touch
Oh I dream of one caress
Oh I pray too much

*** 7red7...In a Manner of Speak is my favorite song from Martin's Counterfiet A.P. That is so cool that you belted out the lyrics.

Hey Dan,

TKA recorded that song in a FANTASTIC version on the last year.

I love that song, I have both versions but the TKA's version is really better!

Buy the album "Forever" to get this one! Really Worth!

One of my faves are...

hot steamy night alone
i wait for you
cold brittle morning alone
and i cry for you

and when you finally call
you cloak your moves in the shadows

those days and nights i was good to you
they must not have meant very much to you

the night i needed you the most
my cries fell on deaf ears

and i'm running so hard to find it
and i'm running so fast
and i'm telling you now to leave me
our romance cannot last

and if someday i need to see you
i'll come back from the past
i'll come back and find you
i'll never leave you now

those days and nights i was good to you
they must not have meant very much to you

the night i needed you the most
my cries fell on deaf ears

now i don't want to play games with you
but i don't know what to say to you
the digits change so slowly now
i'm going it alone

Mercy Street (Peter Gabriel)

looking down on empty streets, all she can see
are the dreams all made solid
are the dreams all made real

all of the buildings, all of those cars
were once just a dream
in somebody's head

she pictures the broken glass, she pictures the steam
she pictures a soul
with no leak at the seam

lets take the boat out
wait until darkness
let's take the boat out
wait until darkness comes

nowhere in the corridors of pale green and grey
nowhere in the suburbs
in the cold light of day

there in the midst of it so alive and alone
words support like bone

dreaming of mercy st.
wear your inside out
dreaming of mercy
in your daddy('s arms again
dreaming of mercy st.
'swear they moved that sign
dreaming of mercy
in your daddy's arms

pulling out the papers from the drawers that slide smooth
tugging at the darkness, word upon word

confessing all the secret things in the warm velvet box
to the priest-he's the doctor
he can handle the shocks

dreaming of the tenderness-the tremble in the hips
of kissing Mary's lips

dreaming of mercy st.
wear your insides out
dreaming of mercy
in your daddy's arms again
dreaming of mercy st.
'swear they moved that sign
looking for mercy
in your daddy's arms

mercy, mercy, looking for mercy
mercy, mercy, looking for mercy

Anne, with her father is out in the boat
riding the water
riding the waves on the sea

taking my medicine
changing the way i am
i don't know where i been
but i was well behaved

i don't know who you are
coming out of my scar
driving my crashing car
that needs a coat of paint

chemical
up and up away i go
out of my head

i'm putting myself in jail
i'm hoping to see you fail
i'm flipping my head and tail
over
i don't know the way
over

i'm throwing up what i drank
no one here i would thank
i feel like a shark that's caught
in a goldfish tank

swallowing a thousand pills
trying to change how i feel
there's just to much time to kill
between all my mistakes

chemical
up and up away i go
out of my head

Steve, the song is called "When the Body Speaks." It's on Depeche Mode's Exciter. It's one of my favorite DM songs...and the best one, by far, on the Exciter album. The lyrics are awesome. Listen to is....it's beautiful.

And so she woke up
Woke up from where she was
Lying still
Said I gotta do something
About where we're going

Step on a steam train
Step out of the driving rain, maybe
Run from the darkness in the night
Singing...

Sweet the sin
Bitter taste in my mouth
I see seven towers
But I only see one way out

You got to cry without weeping
Talk without speaking
Scream without raising your voice

You know I took the poison
From the poison stream
Then I floated out of here
Singing...

She runs through the streets
With her eyes painted red
Under black belly of cloud in the rain
In through a doorway she brings me
White gold and pearls stolen from the sea
She is raging
She is raging
And the storm blows up in her eyes
She will...

Suffer the needle chill
She's running to stand...

Still

Shame one you people! Posting lyrics without telling us poor souls who the band/song is. You all make me resort to using google to figure out where these lyrics are coming from. Granted its not that hard but still you already know! :)
