Which song by Erasure do you think is the most famous one?
Iīm thinking of Always...the only song Iīve heard outside the synthalbums...

I'd have to go with either "A Little Respect" or "Chains Of Love" because they are the songs I rememebr hearing most often on local radio stations.
Occasionally I would hear "Always" and "In My Arms" when they were first released, but then they disappeared.
Unfortunately, most commercial stations don't seem to know that Erasure released several albums after "The Innocents"...

I have to agree with Frank I think A Little Respect has to Erasure's most commercial song. I remember Who Needs Love Like that and Sometimes getting lots of airplay way back when... when radio stations actually played decent music.

"Chains Of Love" is the only song I remember hearing when on the radio after the single was released. A few people told me they heard "Always".

In fact, Iīve never ever heard an Erasure song on the radio, maybe only always but that must have been ages ago then.
They are quite big in this genre, but still people donīt really know about them as they know about e.g. DM!

"Always" just came up randomly on my winamp playlist... I love this song. My favorite parts are the solo and then the lead in to the last chorus.

"Chains of Love" and "A Little Respect" and "Oh Lamour" are by far the most famous ones. You ask any non-Erasure fan if they've ever heard of Erasure, and they ask "who?" But then sing them a lyric from one of those songs and they say "oooooohhhh yes, I've heard of them." Sad, but true. I love meeting people that love Erasure and know all their albums. I would have to say that for DIE-HARD Erasure fans, favorite/famous songs include: Reunion, Where Were You?, Who Needs Love Like That?, Sometimes, Stop!, and so on. Those are the oldies but goldies BAYBAY!

Some of my favorites are the early ones from Wonderland like "Say What"...

Avil: Atleast in the states Erasure went through a period where they were definately close to being as big (to the mainstream crowd) as DM (late 80s/Early 90s)
Then again I was in college then which was out in the middle of nowhere. I only visited the city (Chicago) on breaks and the bars downtown made sure when the students were back to play whatever was popular at the state schools.

I wouldn't rule out Love to hate you and Chours. Those songs got a ton of play on the radio here in Sac. But I'd agree that Chains of Love and Respect are by far the most known.

I did a little experiment..I played a few Erasure CDs for a co-worker (she was shocked to learn Howard Jones did not write/perform "Chains Of Love"....geez!)..she recognized "A Little Respect" and "Chains Of Love" only. Judging by her music collection, I would say she is an average American radio listener who only listens to what is popular, and is indifferent to knowing accurate artist info, etc. I think even though most people might enjoy Erasure, they do not care to research different types of music.

IMO, I think everyone who went with A Little Respect is right on the money...Aside from that, Chains Of Love was also really bug here in So. Cal in the late 80's...And I was suprised to see their cover of Take A Chance On Me went as far as it did as well :)

Hard to say which song is the most famous one, but "A Little Respect" everybody seems to know. It also depends on where in the world we are talking about, but maybe the singles from "Innocents" and "Chorus" cause they are their best selling albums worldwide. If we look at the U.K. market their best selling singles/EP's are Crackers International(Stop),ABBA Esque(Take A Chance On Me) and Sometimes.

Unfortunately, most radio stations in the US play worthless music by synthpop standards. Erasure has released a ton of quality material that never came close to getting any substantial radio play. It's a shame Americans only get to hear the same 2 or 3 songs year after year on retro weekends or whatever. Hip-hop has tainted and ruined everything in the music scene. I guess that's why we're here on this forum. Britney Spears sure looks good though.......YOU GO GIRL!!!
