Its Composition of Sound. I'm not sure, but I think they only created an EP - or an LP single.

Not sure about this though.

I know about few songs they've written but I don't know if they have released them!

Oops, where did I get that time from?
Seems like they really didnīt release anything during this time?

They never released anything as Composition Of Sound...However their set list circa that period included-

Television Set
Reason Man
Tomorrow's Dance
Price Of Love
I Like It
The Ghost Of Modern Times
I Sometimes Wish I Was Dead
What's Your Name

The two latter ended up (as we all know) appearing on Speak & Spell :)

They made those songs during the period of COS but they have never released them.

Avil

Have there been any cover made of the song I sometimes wish I was dead? I recognize that song...

Don't think so but it's possible. I heard that song on S & S album.

Avil

Or maybe itīs S&S that made the original version? hehe..no, but when was the different version released?

ISWIWD was originali written probably during COS period but it was originaly released as the B-side of I-can't-remember-which-single.

Television Set

I Like It
The Ghost Of Modern Times
I Sometimes Wish I Was Dead
What's Your Name

I would love to hear these songs! I wonder if they are laying around on a demo somewhere.

The ones I have are from a vinyl bootleg called An evening at Croc's and is dated 23-10-79...A couple of them surface on another vinyl boot called The Bridghouse 1980...However you can get them on cd if you can find a bootleg called "Every Now And Then"...It's a 2cd set that includes a full show live in San Francisco 1994 and the second cd includes the all of the aforementioned tracks as well as some other favorite oldies from various locations...I must warn you though that the quality is really bad on most of the disc two tracks...So bad in fact that I gave my cd back in search of something else, I just kept the vinyl...If you can manage, find that version...It's still a somewhat bad audience recording, but ten times better than the "ENAT boot"

Happy Hunting!!! :)

In fact, now that I think of it, the second night of Synthcon, Loveless was doing Television Set during their soundcheck...Not bad too :)

As far as I can remember, ISWIWD first appeared as a flip side on a promo blue vinyl 7" in Flexi-Pop magazine in 1980 :)

Avil, the song you mentioned "Let's Get Together"...Do the words go We get together, nothing matters, situations like these I never like to miss??? If so, thats Cetu Javu, not DM...:)

Hey! ... we did not only do a poor sound check with that song, we played it in the regular set at the second night at SynthCon as well ...

If you missed the real set, then you missed it sounding a lot better than during the sound check, since we never give any of the normal energy into a sound check ... it is .. after all .. just to see if we have the sound on all, and that the levels are vaguley ok .. =p

We have been playing Television Set since we started back in 1994, and have had several different versions available on the web ...

We were even part of MODEified 1 with a very early version of Television Set back in 1995... we did record "Tomorrow's Dance" as well but never released that .. =p

Youīre kidding me?
I donīt know if it goes like that, but that could make sence.
So it doesnīt exist any song with COS that got that name then?

~Magic
June 5th, 2002, 10:03 AM
Yes it does. ... but i think that was only brought up to see if it was the Cetu Javu song or not ...

the COS song goes something like this..

Let's get together .... aaa-aaaah
Let's get right down .... yeee-eeeah
Don't want to cry no more
(something something) door
and we will make it better somehow.

I cant remember the whole chorus off the top of my head ..... but if you do a search on audiogalaxy on depeche mode ... or composition of sound and let's get together, you can find it.

What's funny with it is that Vince is the one singing ... but i have seen a VERY early videoclip of the same song ... with DAVE singing it as well ... and THAT version i REALLY want ;)

Wow Avil you have one up on me...I've never heard of that song before...I jealous now :) Magic is right the sample of the lyrics just popped in my head and they sound so simliar to the opening line of Cetu Javu's Situations...Wow, so how do I find this song now???

Okay, I just got in a listen to Let's Get Together...I can't say for sure that it's DM...It doesn't sound like Dave at all, even back in that time period...I think this might be another (same era) band with a simliar sound...One thing I can say for sure is that if this is COS, I think Vince may be singing on this one...:)

~Magic
June 6th, 2002, 03:45 AM
It's like i said... Vince is doing the vocals on the recordings out there... not Dave... :)

and yes, it IS the real thing... it is not another band....

but the REALLY interesting version is the videoclip from 1980 that I saw a brief moment from on a DM-special... where DAVE does sing it.

Needless to say, it sounded a LOT different with Dave's early sound, much more powerful than Vince's singing....

Wow, I stand corrected...Thats the first thing I've ever heard of Vince actually taking the lead vocals...It wasn't bad though...And sorry I missed you already posting it was Vince, my bad :)

Avil

Really?
Didnīt know that Vince ever sang. Thatīs cool! :)
Did he sing on any other song?

~Magic
June 6th, 2002, 10:51 AM
Vince has a history of singing every now and then on various songs....

among them are:
Yazoo - Happy People
Yazoo - In my room
Erasure - Rapture (Vince rapping on this one....)

...and a few others i left out....but he does sing every now and then....

He _was_ the lead vocalist of CoS until they got Dave, cause they "needed a following, and Dave had a much bigger following than Vince"

Micke,

Are you sure you did "Television Set" on Saturday at SynthCON? I thought it was "Photographic" or another early DM song. Maybe it was released in Europe under a different name?

Michelle : )

~Magic

I am VERY sure of our own setlist .. =)

We played the following songs at Synthcon:

1. Intro
2. Something About You
3. Together
4. Killed by Kindness
5. Like I Do
6. Television Set
7. Wishing
8. Untitled Nine
9. The One
10. Function
11. Duality
-----
12. Breaking The Law
13. New Life

So ... as you see ... we had Television Set as a part of our standard set, which we always have...

... and we came back for an encore, in which we played Breaking the Law .... AND New Life ... so we did 2 DM-covers ... the last one just for fun ...

but since the discussion has never been the setlist of loveless, but focused around Television Set, i didn't mention it =)

Well ... since you did miss it .. and basically as a follow up to this thread, we have now posted the 2 DM-covers we played at SynthCon on our website, www.lvls.net

These recordsings were not from SynthCon itself, but from our warm-up gig (and official Release Party) in Stockholm on May 10, 2002...

Both Television Set and New Life are posted there ...

more live tracks to follow soon if you like'em =)

Well ... we would LIKE to come back and do a more "proper" tour of the US ..

unfortunately, we need to get some more coverage first in the press, and be a little more well known, so people would actually you know ... show up =)

But, we would VERY much like to come back and do a north american tour ... we have several invitations to different cities, and you never know ... it might be possible to tie all these together and make some sort of tour out of it .. =)

One correction: The song is called "Addiction" not "Ghost of Modern Time"

~Magic
July 12th, 2002, 06:22 PM
Absolutely correct ... and it more or less became Don't Go! later on ...

the only phrase in which the title is mentioned is:

"...is this addiction, or is this just love
you're my heart-shaped angel from above"

... and then the "chorus" where they sing "closer all the time" ... and that has been on numerous boards and discussions been misheard as "Ghost of Modern Times" ..

We were thinking of pulling a cover of that one in the MODEified days, but it never came too ... =p

Actually, there is a song called Ghist Of Modern Times...I have appearing under that listing on three different boots, and they all have the same chorus in which the lyrics repeat the words Ghost Of Modern Times...

~hippychick
July 19th, 2002, 03:19 PM
Does the rest of "Let's Get Together" have these lyrics at all:

"Come on everybody and gather around! Listen what we're trying to say....

baby I can show you just how..." with an acoustic guitar, no keyboards or anything else? Because I have this clip of a song on tape with dave singing and it might not be "Let's Get Together" but another song and is anyone familiar with that one? The recording I have has them speaking over the song, in an interview, very awkwardly, something like 'we do play the guitars sometimes' in a thick Basildon accent and it is dated 1979. What is this from?

Avil
July 19th, 2002, 05:14 PM
I know that in the end of the chorus of this song they sing "baby we can make it somehow" and thatīs the closest the piece you wrote down hippychick.
But itīs not acustic, not the version I got, mine is pure synthpop aka early DM.

~chriswdc
July 19th, 2002, 10:23 PM
My version is also pure Synthpop..and the singer is Vince Clarke. It is apparently a demo prior to Dave Gahan joining the band.

Avil
July 20th, 2002, 12:34 PM
Donīt ask me whoīs singing in my version, I guess it must be Vince Clarke aswell...I think...

Isnīt the best quality on the song...(letīs blame on that)

The one I got from AG a while back is the same thing...Very much like Vince, prior to Dave :)
