Wolfsheim split up and continue battle in court

It's official now, after the rumours the last few weeks, Wolfsheim's Markus Reinhardt has now officially announced that they will split up. In fact Reinhardt dumped Peter Heppner from the Strange Ways Records signed act and will continue alone with a new singer. The reason for the Wolfsheim mayhem and silence since their 2003 release "Casting Shadows" can be found in a difference in vision on the future of Wolfsheim which was increasingly jeopardized by singer Peter Heppner's solo ambitions.

Reinhardt apparently did not appreciate the fact that Heppner signed a multiple solo-album contract with Warner Music in 2005, an action which according to Reinhardt was a breach of contract and a direct competition for Wolfsheim. On top Heppner wanted to push back a new Wolfsheim release till at least 2009 to focus on his solo career, something that would kill the band's future and damage its image according to the Wolfsheim founder.

Things became that complicated that the duo found themselves in front of the Regional Court of Hamburg which suggested an amicable settlement between both musicians. But those negotiations failed. A final decision from the court as far as Heppner's 'legacy' regarding Wolfsheim is expected later this Spring, Reinhardt's lawyer Jens Schippmann said.

The exclusion of Heppner also means that Reinhardt can now continue working on new Wolfsheim material albeit with a new singer. Wolfsheim founder Markus Reinhardt emphasizes that the style and the artistic direction of the band will remain similar.

Yes, this has been brewing for quite a while. A shame too, since their work together is some of the best synth craft out there.

You have to think something's up when a band doesn't release an album together for five years but the lead singer is constantly off doing vocals for other bands.

Sad, I rather enjoyed them. They're not a band I think that could continue with a different singer; unless they got a singer that sounded like the old one.
