View Full Version : Not Again!

I have been a member of the Delphi ADD forum since it started and also joined this one for the same reasons as other people, too many adverts e.t.c. Another one of my reasons for getting fed up with the Delphi forum was the never ending "top tens" and "best synthpop bands" that kept appearing. Now don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with people having favourite tracks and singers, I do, but I found a lot of my time on the forum was spent sifting through list upon list of the same groups and tracks. It is obvious we all like the same kind of music as we would not be here. I was hoping the new forum was going to get away from this but I have noticed it starting to appear again. What would be nice was if people posted more reviews on new releases and gigs which will give the bands some feedback, and possibly get them involved as it is their music we are buying.
What do you think? Any other ideas?
I don't want to come across as a moaner as I am not, i just don't want to get fed up with this forum as, so far, it has been excellent.
Chris.

But it can be interesting to know what other people think too. E.g. The best DM-song;
They arenīt not only saying; this and this song is my favourite, they also comment it. WHY is this song so good? WHAT could have made it better etc.

I do agree but only a couple of the replies give reasons as to why they like the tracks. Perhaps if they gave a review of their favourite album or track (past or present) and why it has stood the test of time for them it would make it more interesting.

I would have to agree with Chris. It's far more interesting to read a review of why you like the album or artist rather than sifting through lists of names. Like he said we all like the same stuff but it would be nice to know WHY. It would also help others who are interested in looking into new albums get a feel for what the music is not just that it's the favorite album of a dozen or so people.

I must agree with Chris too. Being in a band I like to see constructive criticism of our music, and I spend most of my time trying to get an idea of peoples opinions from places such as this. I fully understand peoples eagerness to establish a fimiliar ground with everyone, but as Chris said, that's why we're on the Synthpop forum.
I've read some great comments regarding my own music, I would really appreciate some in depth and critical conversations so I can make sure that our next release is of a higher standard than before. You are the key to our long stay within this industry, if there is anything you like or dislike I want to know.
DM are already there, Alphaville are there, and I want to be there among them doing the best at what I do, but only with your constructive criticism. Let's cut the crap and get into what we really like about the music of this genre.

I must agree that I too dislike the kind of topics that have arisen, but have tried to be fairly open and respectful of others. I'm glad to see that people are speaking their minds as to what they want to see and don't want to see here. Since collectively WE have control over this message board unlike the Delphi one, we can do something about it.
I'm going to delete the threads that really have no place here, and hope that people will do more to talk about the NEWER artists and the NEWER scene than that of the old. It's time to pass the torch....please support us in doing so.
Thanks very much,

Definitely agree - without some reasons, a top 10 doesn't tell the reader anything other than what the person who posted the top 10 likes - much more interesting to know why the poster considers those ten tracks to be the ten best by that artist.
A similar thing applies to "What is the best synthpop band?" threads. Given how subjective something like this is, without an explanation of why you think an artist is best, it's just a list. I may not agree with the reasons posted, and heated arguments might result, but at least that's more entertaining.
OK, I think I'll go off and try to start a thread that's both interesting and argumentative.

There have been such good releases so far just this year,
(echo image, blue october, intact, the nine, etc)
Let's talk about the new guys that we are going to be enjoying 20 years from now.

Wasnīt this suppose to be the general conversationpart? And in in such a place, you should be free to write whatever you want, as long as it doensīt hurt anyone. The admin more or less said that e.g. the DM-topic didnīt belong here...why not???
It wasnīt only names in that topic, but also a lot of comments. If peope have problem with topics with only names-donīt read them! Read the ones that are more intersting for you then! I maybe thought it was interesting to know what other people thought and why,and Iīm sure that other people thought it too. Why did so many answer if it wasnīt so?
This really didnīt encourage me to stay at this place.

Sorry Avil,
The voice of the people has been made clear. Most people don't like to sort through "What is Depeche Mode's best song" topics to find something really worth getting involved in. There are plenty of forums like that elsewhere such as alt.music.synthpop where anything goes. You are welcome to go to those forums and post anything that you'd like.
This forum will be controlled by the voice of the people, that is the greatest thing about democracy.
Thanks for your cooperation,

No message board can be all things to all people, but I think it's important not to willfully exclude those who help breathe life here.
There are some people who feel passionately enough about bands or albums to post their favorite. Does it really matter what decade in which their passions reside... so long as it's synthpop?
If it's really so offensive, why not create two new forums: 1. Favorite Albums of Today, 2. Favorite Albums of Yesterday.
Who knows... there may be some newbie who is unaware of a really great album from five, ten or fifteen years ago.
Just a thought.

Let's vote on this topic so everyone gets to say their piece, shall we?
I'll post this poll in general discussion.
