So I was browsing around in a Local record store, and I happen to come across (in the singles section) Book of Love "Boy" 2001 remixes. Well, needless to say, being a big Book Of Love fan in the 80's, I was very excited and bought it immediately.

So.... I get back in my car and pop it in the CD player... Rather than expressing my er umm.. opinion right now on it, I'd like to hear what others, if any, think about it. If you've heard it, let me know. I'm DYING to hear everyones opinions.

Cheers

I picked it up too. I didn't hate it, but it's nothing special either.

Overall, i was a little bit disappointed with the single. of course I always am when the remix takes away a lot of the identity of a song. but hey, to each his own.

I thought that this CD was OK. Peter Rauhofer, who is also the guy from Club 69 did a decent job with the mixes. But my biggest problem was that he took out the melodies. The song is energetic and kinda trancey but also a bit boring.

Now the Best Of CD IS good. There are 3 new songs that are classic BOL plus a few of the other songs, like Sunny Day, have been re-recorded with new arrangements that are cool to hear.

Now I don't know if it's gonna happen still, but there WAS talk of a single for I Touch Roses. And at least one of the remixes was to be done by a certain ADD band member. I won't say who since I'm not even sure it's still happening. But needless to say, it would be way cooler than the Boy remixes

I agree that the 'best of' is good. I haven't exactly been the biggest fan of BOL, but I forgot how cool some of those songs are. I hadn't heard 'Tubular Bells' in awhile - good stuff.

Well, in general, I would agree with other people on the single. Not great, but I am a big fan of the dubaholics remix. Like the new songs on the 'best of' it has a real crisp production quality to it that is similar to Chatterbox pt. 2, a closet favorite of mine from their forgettable fourth album.

As for the Best of ... its okay. It was worth getting it to get a single versions of Pretty Boys and Pretty Girls on CD. The remix of Sunny Day was a dissapointment. Its 'pleasant', but really mellowed out almost to the point of catatonia. Not like the version on the 'Alice Everyday' single(?). The new songs are okay, but won't be on my BOL 'best of ...'

Notable absences? Witchcraft, which I have always loved, and a single version of Lullaby rather than the faded out album version (there were a couple).

I guess my issue with it was the fact that even though Trance music is the big party circuit movement right now, I felt that the songs original feel and emotion was taken out of a lot of the different remixes. I know this can be a hot topic and all with different views of artist interpretation but, maybe I'd have like to have seen some more "Synthpop" bands taking a crack at it... Then again, I guess that wouldn't have been as marketable. Oh well...

i would have to agree with you steve. It would have been nice to see some synth bands take a shot at some of the mixes.
