So with this writers strike how are the upcoming award shows going to work? The host and all the words that are spoken for the most part are written by people in the same striking union. Also they are saying that the late night talk shows are going to go back without the writers? I am not sure but I think most comedians like Leno and Obrian, etc. are in the union so they would be scabbing, breaking the "picket line" so to speak if they go back with their own material.

What the hell is the big issue anyway, this has been dragging for a long ass time now and I would say they need to cancel the upcoming award shows cause' they will suck ass because of this.

Leno and O'Brien are going back without the skits and the monologues, so technically, they're not breaking the picket line. It's going to suck, though. I have no idea what they're going to do with the awards shows -- probably the same thing -- just awards and acceptance speeches, no jokes. I saw one guy back in ... '88, was it? ...Anyway, he read a speech prepared by his 10? year old daughter, because he was a member of the union.

This may last for sometime to come. The writers guild is allowing the writers to work in some places and not others. The Spirit Awards for example is one place that they are working along with some other tangential avenues where they are able to start earning a living and not deal with the mainline entertainment industry so that their issues can remain on the table.

Heh if they are working in other channels then this will last for a while. This sounds like something they are not willing to back off from.

Well so the late shows are back without writers as of last night I think. Did anyone catch any of these like Leno and Letterman? I am wondering if there was any noticeable difference in the show?

LOL. Judging by some of the so called comedic content on shows like Leno though, it appears that they are not quite back yet. :)
