View Full Version : Gear talk - Native Instruments Synths...

Hey fellow synth and gear fans. I'm about to, mostly, ditch my hardware studio and switch to an all-software laptop-based studio (primarily out of necessity). I need to replace my trusty synths (mainly my beloved Novation KS4s, Nord Lead, and Korg Triton) with something in software form.

I've found a pretty good deal on Komplete 5 packaged with Kore 2 and I think there's enough there to replace just about all of my hardware synths. I've heard only great things from most people about this software, but any other insights would be greatly appreciated. (Ex: Think these softsynths are decent on CPU usage on a brand new loaded MacBook, or should I be thinking of getting Powercore Compact -based stuff... or even lugging a Virus TI Snow around instead?)

Even if you've only dabbled using Absynth or you use nothing but Battery, I'd love your 2 cents. I've been making music for 20 years (see Cosmicity / Mark Nicholas), so I'm very comfortable around synths, but I'm also a somewhat lazy programmer (a preset tweaker, if you will), so discussion of ease-of-use would also be a bonus.

Thanks everyone!

I think that the software, which of course needs good hardware to run on, has reached a time and place where it is very reasonable to have an all software rig. The timbre and richness of the sounds and even the F/X is now really close to the big metal rackmounts. I say you are right on track.

The small studio footprint is also very nice, something one appreciates completely when needing to move from one house to another for sure.
