This came from David Blomburg, the top promoter on mp3.com, he called his contacts and this is what it comes down to:

There will be 2 sites here

1. An Information site with Mp3 news, etc similar to the news section of CNET w/ MP3 stuff and links, etc

2. An Indie Music Site - this won't be one that the Label Whores are dropping tracks into, it's going to be an Indie Showcase.

Will it cost anything?

NO

Will it sell our CD's on Demand?

I don't know that one

Will it get high traffic?

Does CNET?

Hey ... if it's CD's on demand you want, just sell them right from your cafepress.com account if you have one. :)

I think for most of us, the free music hosting would be all we need, with a few requirements: Namely, the functionality of the old mp3.com, being able to customize your page, being able to search by genre or location or "bands who sound like Erasure", the stations which let people build up playlists of their favorite songs and share with everyone else. These were really clever parts of the old mp3.com and I'd like to see those preserved in our new universe.

well said Synthpopalooza, that's about all I do on that site anyway is look for bands I might dig. And using the "sounds like" section helps as well, as for all the other stuff on mp3, I have no idea what it is, but I don't use it!

Yeah, from what I hear, it'll have functionality similar to the old mp3.com, customize, etc..

The traffic it will get is what I'm after...mass exposure, baby...
