Hi

Just bought a vocal preamp, it as a phase invert switch, I've notice that a lot of pream have this, what is it mainly used for or what practical application does it have.

Phase inversion simply "flips" the output waveform. You can use this to either inject an "outer-spacy" effect feel to a vocal, or you can use it to prevent-- or create-- "signal cancel". (Any waveform, when played simultaneously with its phase-inverted equivalent, cancels out, leaving silence.)

I think why its on a preamp is because you can phase invert a mic to "more" isolate a particular drum. (phase cancel other drum mics out)
