What music do you have in your collection that you absolutely love, but hope to god no one will ever discover?

My guilty pleasure, btw, is (GULP)...
Justin Timberlake's "Justified" cd. There I've said it. I feel so much better now that I got that off my chest.

Wham! I was a BIG Wham! fan back in the day. I used to watch my videos every single day. A friend of mine went to great lengths to buy me the Best of Wham, or something like that on cd for Christmas 2001. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed that band. I even do part of the Wham Rap to get my kids to come to the carpet at school. I do it:

"I said, a sit, sit, sit on down,
I said, a sit, sit, sit on down"

instead of the get on down lines. It's cute!

They learn the lines and do it with me. I have on occasion gone into the song more, but I always stop when he gets to the bad word.

Well, I have Clay Aiken's disc on reserve at my store.

AND.... thanks to a friend of mine, I now like Avril Lavigne and AFI.

Not that I really care, but I suppose Dwight Yoakum and Johnny Cash would come close enough to a guilty pleasure.

I'm not bothered by my Sarah Brightman collection, but everytime I mention I like Sarah Brightman I get wierd looks, so does that count? :)

Well I have the album of the artist that does the "David Duchovny, why don't you love me?" song. I suppose that is the only thing that I might be embarassed by.

Wait--I think that is another thread...

Being exposed to so much Justin Timberlake when the whole Duran Duran MTV award fiasco went down... i have to also admit -he's pretty clever... but i can't stand the embarrassment of going to a record shop and facing the clerk to pay for it :)

oy! Steph, i'm hearing you with the whole Wham! thing... there is something so cheesy about it that you just have to love it!

mine is actually Dannii Minogue - "Neon Nights" wow talk about cheesy electro pop with the full on tarty vocals! I can't stop listening to it... its so catchy! Especially the track "I Begin To Wonder". Actually, there is a great mashup remix of this track with "You Spin Me Right Round" (Dead or Alive)

Neon lights is a fantastic album !

My most dodgy purchase recently has been a dodgy Japanese import of the Buggles second album, "Adventures in modern recording". It is like a cross between Yes and ABC.

Interestingly it has quite a few melodies which turned up on later Depeche Mode Albums.

So you don't think I should be embarrassed? I played some tracks for Amy who said "all i hear is Brittney" LOL

No : It is a great album ! very cool, and "Begin to wonder" was one of my favorite tracks from last year. I enjoyed it more than madonna's new album.

I keep forgetting the CD was released in Europe way before we're getting it here!

did you hear the remix to "Don't Wanna Lose This Feeling" mashed up with "Into the Groove" called : "DON'T WANNA LOSE THIS GROOVE"? its on her site danniimusic.com :) and its hottt (yes with three t's)

I can't say i like it better then Madges' cos she is my girl... but I do really love it! ok i'll come up with another Guilty Pleasure cd - gimme some time...

Hahaha...I about died when I had to go up and buy the damn cd. I mean, lemme put it this way, I am most likely the only person in Maine with unnaturally colored hair (it is currently red and black) and piercings. That said...the clerk was looking at me rather dubiously when I placed the Justified cd up on the counter. I felt like such a retard. And then, to make matters worse, I had to explain the purchase to my husband who is a major music nazi! He was laughing his ass off and I didn't hear the end of it for weeks.

About the Wham rap...I too have a fondness for that song. I really like to play it loud in my car and roll down the windows...especially whenever I pass those little homie g-funk guys with their loud rap music playing. I dork out to it totally. It is really funny. I love when he says the thing about "I'm a soul boy, I'm a doughboy????" All I can think of is George Michael in a Pillsbury cap. hahaha

Oh, and one more thing...I had no idea that you also like Madge, Electroswank. That said, what did you think of her American Life cd? Just curious.

see... my guy's a music nazi too, so are most of my friends - i would be razzed forever. :)

LOL@George Michael in a Pillsbury cap - is that what the lyric is? wow, i had no idea - thats like reading the lyrics to "come on eileen" *oh THATS what he says*

Yea i have to admit i'm a long time madonna fan....since the early 80s. i used to be a closet fan cos back in the day most of my friends were uber goths (like me) but i finally came out in the 90s :)

I'm down with the American Life album... I think Mirwais took a lot of musical chances with her and it just works. It took a few listens tho, not a love at first listen for me. stand out tracks for me : Love Profusion, Mother & Father, Nobody Knows Me and Easy Ride .. I love the honest themes in these tracks, to me i feel like shes telling the public, "look i am a human with feelings, not what you would think i am" I am sure it has a lot to do with her religious studies and how much she has learned about herself.

honestly, didn't really like the choice of Hollywood as a single tho. I like "American Life", but the Felix da Housecat's remix of it, IMO is brilliant... I would have used that as the final "single" if it were up to me :)

XO

PS: LOL I blast Hall and Oates, Def Leppard, Donna Summer, and other uncharacteristicly me songs in the car singing them all the time! hey man, got to have fun right? so what? :) It's too much pressure to be cool all the time.

Not sure if these discs are mine or if they belong to my wife. Ok, I'll admit they are probably mine.

Eagles Greatest Hits
Genesis Greatest Hits
Hall & Oats Greatest Hits
Iron Maiden (about 5 discs)

I could go on but let's just say about 250 discs in my collection are my guilty pleasure.

ElectroSwank...you're my kinda girl! I think I love you, but not in that icky David Cassidy kinda way. :-P
Oh, and as I'm sure you guessed...I am a Madonna freak too. I was also in the closet about it for the longest time because she's just so mainstream, and well...I can be tres pretentious at times. As far as the American Life cd is concerned...I think it still has to grow on me. I don't know if I really like her rapping. But I do like some of the songs on the cd a lot, particularly Hollywood, I'm So Stupid, Love Profusion, and Nobody Knows Me. I love the neat little things Mirwais did with her voice on the album. Really an extension of his work on Music.
I'll have to check the Felix da Housecat remix of American Life...maybe I'll like that version of it better? I know that I like a lot of the remixes he's done for other artists, particularly Miss Kittin.

I don't really think that I'm embarrassed by anything I own...

I do get flack from Tim, Chris and most of that whole crew for A LOT of my taste in music, but hey, the variety suits me...

Hey, listen to what you like, who cares? I personally do not care for little girly voices, that's all I was saying at the time, but in complete contradiction i love the Mel C. album that came out a year or so ago...go figure *shrugs*

To each his own...

My greatest guilty pleasures are Whitesnake, Modern Talking and Zarah Leander. I would put TATU up there as well... very guilty! Having a strange sense of humor, I'm not embarrassed by any of it. I also like a lot of early Motown.

Some of this is quite good especially Ken Laszlo (it's so obvious how Neil Tennant borrowed his vocal style), Gazebo, Valerie Dore and Laserdance! does NY have Italo nights, because it's not to be found on the dancefloors around here :(

who can forget also the good freestyle (C-Bank, Shannon, Noel), Miami bass etc.
